Where to "Park" a decent sum of cash?

Quote from gms:

American Trust & Mattress ---- it's the only mattress that combines comfort for you and security for your money. Did you know that money kept in a mattress outperformed the Standard & Poor Index two out of the past three years? And your cash is safe in a mattress from American Trust & Mattress. Because each mattress is protected by law ---- clearly set forth on the mattress tag ---- making it a crime punishable by fine and imprisonment to remove the tag or to remove any contents of the mattress. You'll sleep better at night knowing your money is safe ---- in your mattress.

This gets my vote. Add a $200 shotgun and you'll have the best security you can provide, which is a lot better than what a lot of guys in armani suits can get ya'. You could also wrap it in plastic and freeze it in sausage, but it prolly sleeps better than it tastes. Hokey but effective.

A good idea indeed, but requires work. You gotta research the right property and it's tough to actually get to the bidding process.

im buying some of the closed end bond funds that trade on the nyse that have fallen to a discount to nav for income. im picking ones that hold mostly government bonds for safety. you can get 6-8% yield on these and if you diversify you can further reduce risk. warning though, if the bond market crashes these could fall 10% further. acg or bkt are two that i have purchased recently that you could look at. do your own research.

selling these today into strength. they have run up to a premium to nav. will buy back at a discount to nav.

I'm not into them, but I saw a note recently about new GE bonds @ 7 1/4% - so you might check around for decent quality corporate debt as a place to stash the cash to see if it conforms to your needs.
