Where to get information about amount of traders?

Hi guys :)

I'm making a research about individual stock traders and also about auto-trading companies (which offers algorithmic trading for it's customers) and I'm looking for information regarding this matter.

I want to know mainly about how many traders/investors are there in the US, in the world,
How much money individual traders lose,
How many dealer-broker companies are there,
How many algo-trading companies are there,
and so on...

I tried to google it for weeks but there's just too much economic info so basically I got nothing.
Does anyone have an idea how can I get answers to these questions?
Any help would be appreciated,

Thanks alot,
Ami

you need to put in more effort into your research. mostly it would be common sense. google is not going to spoonfeed you.

I want to know mainly about how many traders/investors are there in the US, in the world,
- how you define traders/investors? my grandma can trade too. where do you think you can find info about my grandma? for a start, search individual brokerage companies and their financial reports.

How much money individual traders lose
- think my grandma will share that with you? Try disguising as an employer and ask candidates for their returns or tax statements. that's a reporter going undercover.

How many dealer-broker companies are there
- Find out listed companies on exchanges or the regulatory websites. These are usually available publicly. For a start, try NFA.

How many algo-trading companies are there
- How do you define algo trading? Universe of trading companies - non-algos = number of algo companies. How about some small trading groups who doesn't wish to be publicly counted? For a start, bloomberg and some recruiting forums do have some sort of list or rankings of such companies, but they are not the in the universal set.

U a marketing student of some sort? Trading is a huge world. There's futures, equities, fixed income, forex, options worlds. Exchange-traded and OTC. Some of them are not even regulated, some closed shop as soon as they're open. That's the beauty of trading.

If you go under the advertising section on EliteTrader here, you will actually find a "tiny" bit of info regarding trade frequency. Keep in mind, these stats are limited to this forum. Also, I believe investopedia, marketwatch, bloomberg, reuters, etc, may have past articles with the stats you are looking for.
