add some MB+chip bundles from tigerdirec for example and you got yourself decent brand new computer for under $200 :D

If you have a server with special needs (e.g. ECC, registered or odd configurations), or are willing to pay for quality, Mushkin is great.

More expensive than plain old memory but I can't recommend them enough for servers.

Quote from lilboy716:

quality of ram is determined by its latency, not its brand.

the name brand memories do have better latency & they tend to be pricy.

i just bought some 3-3-3 pc3200 ram, because my system already came with memory of such latency. it is pretty slow and it is cheap. cruial make 2.5 and 2's

you can find out about your memory's latency by using this program

Agreed, memory is the same...but the % failure rate and latency are different manufacturer to manufacturer.

PS--Did try a couple cheap OCZ sticks from tigerdirect......1 failed outta the box, the other would occasionally hang the OS....tigerdirect immediately replaced and refunded (got a diff brand to replace). Been buying from tiger for years....and will continue.
