It's the "freedom from government authority and regulations" that I hear almost exclusively from Americans that gets me going. I realise this is tied historically and passed on from generation to generation and promoted by the political and commercial interests who don't like government to butt in their affairs. But the lawless, gun packing cowboy culture that pervades to this day in America, while it's cool folklore, is precisely what needs to change for the country to evolve.
I know of no other country in the world as policed as the US, from the armed security guard to the local, county, state and federal police forces and numerous other agencies that all claim jurisdiction, with a weapon at their hips.
It's as if no one wants government, except if it provides a job with a gun. And that doesn't include our military forces, one of the world's largest and by far the most expensive of all, paid by "you are to be grateful to be protected ", the American citizenry.
It's a scam perpetuated by the politico-military industrial complex, the same that wants small, toothless government.

Sorry, my rant of the month.

As for Granville it is a neat little town. I had family that lived there for about 10 years. There are different seasonal festival/street fair types of events when they open up different historical buildings (an arts type center/old bar? and old bank with big vault). On way into town there is a active marina but the only other retail business (gas station/convenience store) has a habit of closing for a year or two at a time. Flashing light signal rounds about things out. :)

US is a huge mosaic like no other, with a population over 300Mill it is normal to be policed and armed and in my opinion even that don't look enough. People got bazookas&missile launcher in their kitchen cupboard man, like what do you expect ? Norway like system ?
