Where is futurecurrents?

what troll clown you are ... for years I have asked you to produce a peer reviewed papers showing man made co2 is causing warming here on earth and you have not produced one.

We have for years linked to papers showing the sun the tides are responsible for some or all the warming...

we have linked to hundreds of scientists who question whether man made co2 is causing any warming...

and we have showed surveys showing about half the climate scientists in the studies question it.

Its not one scientists its thousands and we have linked to them many times.

And nary a climatologist among them.

But we do have unqualified right wing nut jobs like these guys from that list of non-climate scientists

Oh wow!!! A politician!!! lol

One publishing CLIMATOLOGIST jerm. One.

As far as your science proving that AGW is real?.......

It is amazing that Futurecurrents ignores Judith Curry and all the other well recognized publishing climate scientists in the list.

At this point you can only assume that Futurecurrents is trolling for his own amusement and is not interested in a rational discourse.

futurecurrents,

I have one question that has nagged at me and maybe you can answer it. Even on hellish planets that are tidal locked with the sun, the side facing the sun may be several hundred degrees, while the dark side is hundreds of degrees colder. This is true greenhouse gas or not.

My question is, on a planet like earth that rotates and whose sides alternate facing the sun, why doesn't the trapped heat radiate (at the red spectrum) into space at night, cooling the earth? I am guessing that the answer is that this does happen, but that the rate at which it does radiate is not 100% of what is trapped during the day by greenhouse gases, and over long periods of time even small amounts begin to add up.

But I am curious hearing what is known about this.

Futurecurrents is an HVAC installer not a scientist, how would he know?

Well, I'll answer as best as I can even though I am only a HVAC contractor with an old unused Env Sci degree with a minor in geology.

The main thing is that those planets that are hot and cold on opposite sides despite having some greenhouse gasses is that they don't have oceans. The earth's oceans acts like a giant hydronic HVAC system, transferring heat around the world and also acting as a large thermal mass reducing large temp swings.

So yes the "heat radiation" is always escaping the earth but the GHGs act as blankets same way clouds do at night. This is why clear nights are colder. The heat is escaping more easily.

Hope that answers your question. Need a new A/C unit? :)

Ok right, I am guessing that the thermal insulating properties of water is greater than non-liquid like dirt etc. So are you saying then that the reason is warming is mostly due to the fact that the oceans are the ones efficiently storing the heat build up, and even at night they don't radiate away anywhere near what they stored? Or equivalently, water transfers heat from hot to cold places. This is perhaps one reason why California is getting drouts. It is a bit confusing, since you would think the earth would concentrate on cooling places like California by raining on it almost continously. I am guessing winds are the culprit, driving cloud buildup away. But removing cloud cover helps with heat dissipation at night! My head is spinning. This is not so simple!

It turns out that dirt with water is more insulating than without it. It is called an R-value:

I bet you if we could force the earth to only rain during the day, and always be clear at night, we could cool it down dramatically in ten years.

What is even crazier is that while the earth's ocean store most of the heat, it is far easier to heat up air than water. Air has a low specific heat (about 1 Joule / gram * 1 degree Celsius) Water has a high specific heat. (about 4 Joule / gram * 1 degree Celsius)

Specific heat- the amount of heat need to raise or lower 1 gram of a substance 1 degree Celsius.
