Some avoid it while others do not.
I do remember many institutional traders using private chat on Bloomberg to conspire about positions. Eventually they got caught...fined and some fired.
My point, professional traders working for institutional trading firms use chat but obviously for different reasons. Yet, I suspect some still do it but are more secretive about it today now that big brother is watching.

Simply, real traders do in fact use chat rooms and I'm sure they too thought it was a distraction but highly profitable.
Yet, some big firms are getting rid of their bloomberg terminal chat feature to go with other types of chat features for their employees (real traders) for cost reasons and security reasons.

In fact, some of these "real traders" admit to using bloomberg terminals for solely to use the chat services being offered to users.
Regardless, I highly doubt any retail day trader is able to be among the professional chat rooms that tend to be private (secretive).

i don't agree with you. traders need to discuss what the market trend is going to be, what are the next steps. it's not like traders chat for hours like a normal person. plus the chat happens after hours to discuss what will happen tomorrow etc.

Traders trade their own system, so they don't need any advice from other traders or "traders".
Traders don't need to discuss anything, just follow their system. Other traders cannot give valid advice as they don't know your trading system nor rules.
It is like asking a blind man which road you should go.
