Where can I find REAL studies on traders?

I've heard a lot of statistics about how many traders fail, break-even, etc. However, is there a place I can find real studies of this? I have heard there are only between 5,000 - 10,000 professional daytraders in the United States.

Does anyone know what the best 5% of futures traders take home a year?

I also want to start a poll and find out what everyone makes a year off trading.
