When will enough be enough, when will the KILLING start

Jesus would have been an independent.

Church or state - its all the same when they have too much or abuse their power.

In my opinion as I do not want in anyway to speak for Jesus, I would suspect you are correct.

you might want to look into CRS. Which I researched when I lost a bet here on et and signed up to give monthly.
http://crs.org/

I noticed samaritanspurse.org

I am sure they could all do better... but having gone to churches for years I am constantly aware of some great people who give over their time and money... and go all over.
I could not speak more highly of some groups that collect for food drives and then deliver it... etc.

People could do more... sure... but I think you need to drop your bias.

Yeah, the poor that are able to get to the church and grovel for it.

The poor around churches in wealthy neighborhoods do pretty well. The poor around the churches in the neediest neighborhoods, not so well. This is why a centralized distribution system that treats all areas equally are more effective.

Don't misunderstand me. The work that the good people in churches do is admirable. They are doing the hard part of Christianity. Caring for the least among us. Too many go to church only for the personal salvation feel good part. It actually becomes a selfish endeavor.

If we really want to help the poor we need our government. Attending to the general welfare has always been a function of it.

The fraud in the social safety net represents only about 1% of the federal budget. Surely that is not too large a price to pay to act with high ethics. And the entire SSN, outside SS and Medicare/caide, is only 12% of the budget. I don't think many people know this.
