Wheat - Oct 11, 2006

Quote from Pa(b)st Prime:

It's not so much "each" month that does it's own thing. Different crop years do their own thing. The CBOT Wheat contract is Soft-red Winter Wheat harvested in the early SUMMER. Thus July/07 Wheat is the Wheat that's just now being planted. The prices that are exploding (Dec/06, Mch/07) are existing supplies of wheat.

BTW: I hear funds are long the fronts, Cargill and other commercials are shorts spreads and a few locals are down millions.

The way I look at the markets, each "month" has its own uniqueness of oscillation. Yes, there are similarities but I read and take my signals from market specifics and they are unique from month to month.

The indy feedlots I help out in Kansas have been long Dec. Wheat & Corn since mid September. Talk about one happy bunch of ranchers. IMHO Corn could be potentially topping here.

any useful link to read up on the upcoming wheat numbers ( every week or so)... I did google it, not a lot of helpful stuff

There is so much mis-information out there in the grains that the only useful information I get is on the weather channel. Personally, I'm a technical/seasonal trader.

I too would be interested in any good news sources on ags in general.

CBOT produces a 3x daily report from the floor that has a variety of interesting news.

I also tivo "This Week in Agribusiness" on RFDTV (and skip the 5x per broadcast weather reports). They sometimes have some pretty good news segments.

Great link FullyArticulate, thanks a bunch
