What's with the word "handle"

Quote from 151:

I have always hated trendy speak.

I remember being pissed off anytime someone in a meating would say expidite or fruition.

Not that those arent legitimate words but with both it was all of a sudden like they were the "cool" ways to say hurry and complete.

People need to realize you are either cool or not. Trying to be cool is not cool.

the more someone uses trendy speak or slang

the less i trust them

i try to avoid all of it in my speaking and writing

Is this the new cool word? Just because some dildo on Fast Money has started using this ole term doesnt mean its as cool as crack. Reminds me of the daytraders always asking "hey where the spoos at" in the late 90's early 2ks.

As a former stock-index futures floor trader from the mid-80's I can tell you that the term "handle" has been around for nearly 25 years . . .

The old sp was $500x and traded in .10 at $50 a tick and a handle was a reference for a full point as well. This was subsequently cut in half just as the eminis were introduced. I miss that old big contract.

Quote from Kicking:

There used to be a big S&P contract (bigger than today's big contract), and if I am not mistaken I believe the term handle applied to fractions of a point. Does everyone use handle for full points or some old school traders use it talking about ticks?

agreed. handle has always been used. when you quote something you usually just say 10 at 20 not 1122.10 bid / 1122.20 offer
