Whats going on with all these people ready to give up their rights?

So there you have it, gwb-trading's daughter is a nurse and therefore his opinion is more important than yours. Forget your 1st Amendment rights, they have been usurped because his daughter is a nurse. How dare you protest anything the government does?

22 million people lost their livelihoods in the last weeks so that we can give a bunch of 80 year olds with COPD a few extra weeks to live. gwb-non-trading has deemed that these people have no right to protest.

You are welcome to your opinion above --- because that is all it is.

You are not welcome to your own facts -- count on nonfactual nonsense you post to be corrected.

Yes... it is my opinion.

I clearly separate out facts with evidence to support my points... versus my opinion in this forum.

Bottom line --- and this is my opinion. Some of these liberate protestors will enjoy a visit from Darwin in about three weeks. And it is all due to their own disrespectful actions. Unfortunately they will take other innocent people with them --- including healthcare providers.

I know you do. You've always been good about separating your opinion and calling it out appropriately.

We shall see if your prophecy about these protesters comes true. I have no doubt you will return to provide the article or two that calls out a few of the cases that came from protesting - scientifically proven or otherwise.

If we did nothing and people keep dying then everyone would complain that we acted too slowly and did not do enough.

Damned if you do..damned if you don't...

Michigan went too far to be honest because in my state we have stay in place orders but not those stupid restrictions on travel in the state. Also landscapers, delivery people, exterminators, plumbers etc... are still working and out and about following safe guidelines. Verizon would not come to the house but did send me the equipment I needed for self installation.

If Spring Breakers are going to the beach, the governor could have closed the beaches. remember you can be safe but if 15 kidiots come back to your area carrying it and spread it to many others and create a hospital overload then it does affect us all. let's stop worrying about the old people many of you claim were dying anyway because the 4 people I know of who died were not in their 70s or 80s or even close to dying and had no other condition (one was 49 actually).

More importantly....herd immunity with a novel disease is not the answer, not sure why people keep bringing that up.

What will it take to achieve herd immunity with SARS-CoV-2?
As with any other infection, there are two ways to achieve herd immunity: A large proportion of the population either gets infected or gets a protective vaccine. Based on early estimates of this virus’s infectiousness, we will likely need at least 70% of the population to be immune to have herd protection.

  • In the worst case (for example, if we do not perform physical distancing or enact other measures to slow the spread of SARS-CoV-2), the virus can infect this many people in a matter of a few months. This would overwhelm our hospitals and lead to high death rates.
  • In the best case, we maintain current levels of infection—or even reduce these levels—until a vaccine becomes available. This will take concerted effort on the part of the entire population, with some level of continued physical distancing for an extended period, likely a year or longer, before a highly effective vaccine can be developed, tested, and mass produced.
  • The most likely case is somewhere in the middle, where infection rates rise and fall over time; we may relax social distancing measures when numbers of infections fall, and then may need to re-implement these measures as numbers increase again. Prolonged effort will be required to prevent major outbreaks until a vaccine is developed. Even then, SARS-CoV-2 could still infect children before they can be vaccinated or adults after their immunity wanes. But it is unlikely in the long term to have the explosive spread that we are seeing right now because much of the population will be immune in the future.

I respect and understand your viewpoint, but I don't agree with much of the stuff you claim on the severity of the outbreak - mostly because the data used to support both sides of the argument is so convoluted and incomplete.

I know you are a fellow Floridian. What are your thoughts on DeSantis and his latest message?

That is the tragedy. The protesters themselves deserve whatever may be coming to them. The facts have been made available to them by experts, but they choose to listen to Trump U grads instead. So I have little sympathy for them. It is the innocent people who they will take down with them that I find very upsetting.

I believe Florida has some advantages with the large senior citizen population, most of them tend to stay in sheltered communities and simply enhanced that self stay at home when this hit. With the time of the year and weather the most at risk in the state with the most at risk people were social distancing and protecting themselves pretty well in my opinion. I think though DeSantis is fine to take the risk of opening up becaus the elderly will mostly stay away from crowds. But he is naive to other things.

What DeSantis is completely clueless on is this:

Leaving the beaches opened on Spring Break and allowing people from many of the OTHER states to be there in large groups more than a month after the first cases were spreading shows ignorance on his part. All of those people went back to their States and help the spread to some extent given the tracking of the cell phones that occurred. Kind of like China bragging about how well they handled it but ignoring the people they let spread it elsewhere.

Disney World shutting down (not DeSantis) definitely cut down a lot of cross border carrying of the virus.

Question is what does he do now if he wants people to simply go back to normal without any proper testing conditions? Is he more worried about his job or keeping Floridians safe?

I just may just meet your request. The reality however is that I may refrain from doing that because it is sort of harsh to cheer on the death of others from a deadly disease in a worldwide pandemic.

However if an article shows the chain of impacted innocent people caused by a liberate infected person who took no cautions to distance themselves or quarantine -- then I will likely post this information to serve as a warning about the consequences that extend beyond the individual.

Your narrative is counting on it.

I don't know. I hope he is beginning to understand that the economic cost to people is far greater than the potential risk of an overblown crisis. Don't get me wrong, I believe this is a nasty virus. But its not as bad as is being claimed, and we will likely never know how wrong they were because they'll never admit it.

My guess is we will open back up and this will fade from memory with everyone scratching their heads as to why we did what we did. But we'll keep on being told "it was for our own good". Those who were pushing the narrative of the end of the world will immediately pivot and claim we avoided the apocalypse because we isolated (ignoring that they told us to isolate far longer and in much more harsh a manner). Its a no lose for the narrative.
