What You Need To Believe To Be A Republican

I don't claim any party but I'm sure not a liberal. I don't really favor the war in the first place, but I think most of the very liberal people though are doing a downright horrible job of getting their view across if they really want the war/occupation to end.

Quote from howellpar:

A young woman was about to finish her first year of college. Like so many others her age, she considered herself to be a very liberal Democrat, and was very much in favor of the redistribution of wealth.

She was deeply ashamed that her father was a rather staunch Republican, a feeling she openly expressed. Based on the lectures that she had participated in, and the occasional chat with a professor, she felt that her father had for years harbored an evil, selfish desire to keep what he thought should be his.

One day she was challenging her father on his opposition to higher taxes on the rich and the addition of more government welfare programs. The self-professed objectivity proclaimed by her professors had to be the truth and she indicated so to her father.

He responded by asking how she was doing in school. Taken aback, she answered rather haughtily that she had a 4.0 GPA, and let him know that it was tough to maintain, insisting that she was taking a very difficult course load and was constantly studying, which left her no time to go out and party like other people she knew. She didn't even have time for a boyfriend, and didn't really have many college friends because she spent all her time studying.

Her father listened and then asked, "How is your friend Audrey doing?"

She replied, "Audrey is barely getting by. All she takes are easy classes, she never studies, and she barely has a 2.0 GPA. She is so popular on campus; college for her is a blast. She's always invited to all the parties, and lots of times she doesn't even show up for classes because she's too hung over."

Her wise father asked his daughter, "Why don't you go to the Dean's office and ask him to deduct a 1.0 off your GPA and give it to your friend who only has a 2.0. That way you will both have a 3.0 GPA and certainly that would be a fair and equal distribution of GPA."

The daughter, visibly shocked by her father's suggestion, angrily fired back, "That wouldn't be fair! I have worked really hard for my grades! I've invested a lot of time, and a lot of hard work! Audrey has done next to nothing toward her degree. She played while I worked my tail off!"

The father slowly smiled, winked and said gently, "Welcome to the Republican party."

Easily the best post of the year in chit chat. Thank you.

In this the best reply a liberal can muster. And was that a typo?

That is a typical rightwing strawman describing the communist "solution" which has nothing in common with the reality and democratic platform. Of course it's good enough for a lot of silly, gullible and simplistic people to vote republican.

Jimmy Carter's diary:

... a high school girl asked me why she should be a Democrat. I asked her a series of questions that all bloggers should use in discussions: Do you prefer peace or war? Do favor tax breaks for the richest Americans or working families? Would you rather destroy the environment or protect it? Do you approve the torture of prisoners? Do you think our government should secretly spy on your family? Do you think we should abandon every nuclear arms control agreement negotiated since Dwight Eisenhower was president? Do you approve of your part of the national debt now being $28,000 and increasing by $300 each month? Do you think we should meld religion and government?

Jimmy Carter's diary: (what a freakin exciting read that must be) Great Prez. American's hostage in Tehran, Dow at 600, interest rates at 18%, unemployment at 11%, gasoline at the 2006 price equivalency of $4.00 per gallon. You tell 'em Jimmy!!!!

She'd say if I prefer war I'll vote Democrat. That way I can be on the side of Wilson in WWl, FDR in WWll, Truman in Korea, LBJ in Viet Nam and Clinton in Bosnia/Monica/Somalia.

Do favor tax breaks for the richest Americans or working families?

If she's like 39% of all wage earners she paid ZERO in Federal income tax so I'd guess she digs her tax cut. Do you know ANYONE being taxed at a higher rate under Bush?

Would you rather destroy the environment or protect it? Do you approve the torture of prisoners? You mean like Enron getting an AWARD at Kyoto with Gore? What did Clinton do to help ease our dependance on fossil fuel?

Do you think our government should secretly spy on your family?Only if my sister's shooting the shit on the phone with a terrorist. She's dated worse.....

Do you think we should abandon every nuclear arms control agreement negotiated since Dwight Eisenhower was president? Yea LOL, Clinton and Gore were HAWKS in dealing with Korea and Iran. If America believed shit like that then Kerry would be Prez.

Do you approve of your part of the national debt now being $28,000 and increasing by $300 each month? My share of the debt could be $280,000 and I'd still be ahead with the Bush tax cuts.

Do you think we should meld religion and government? Why not. Carter's 1976 campaign was modeled on a crusade. England, Italy and Ireland are religious democracies. I don't hear anyone beefing about fairness in those nations.

American's hostage in Tehran
"Ironically the hostages were finally released on Jan. 20, 1981, the day of the inauguration of Carter's successor, Ronald Reagan. Their freedom was obtained in exchange for concessions that included the unfreezing of Iranian assets in the United States."

unemployment at 11%. You tell 'em Jimmy!!!!
Actually: Unemployment rate:
1977 6.9
1978 6.0
1979 5.8
1980 7.0

Did I mention that 8 million jobs were created during the four years of Carter's presidency, only 3 million jobs were created during the last six years.

If she's like 39% of all wage earners she paid ZERO in Federal income tax
Could that be because they already live below or barely above the poverty level? Take your time, think about it, if you don't know the answer - try to guess.

Do you think our government should secretly spy on your family?Only if my sister's shooting the shit on the phone with a terrorist. She's dated worse.....
Good right-winger that you are you hate and despise the government but you blindly trust it to only spy on your sister if she's talking with a terrorist and absolutely convinced that no checks and balances are needed (i.e. FISA court supervision and warrants) to make sure the government does not abuse its powers. I am sure you're going to be just as trusting of the future Hillary's administration.

My share of the debt could be $280,000 and I'd still be ahead with the Bush tax cuts.
Good for you, you obviously don't have children so you could not care less that they will have to pay for the tax cuts you got from Bush. In this sense you and Bush are common thieves.

Young republicans! Right !
So unfair too-
Suckeling from the bitter teet of the Democrat muther..
The fruit of hate bears bitter jam - he learns - and so young too.
