What type of account to begin with?

For someone starting out, what type of account would be best to start with?

I was considering a spread betting account, as they seem to have very tight spreads and are 'tax-free' at the moment.

Another place I was looking at was GCITrading for their mini-accounts.

Btw, I have 2-5k tuition to play with, so it'll be a small account.
