what to do when you know how to make money...

not at all.

big and small are relative terms, but in the grand scheme of things 20K is peanuts.

the number of traders making a living with a sub six figure base is infinitesimal.
True but how many traders started out with $15 or $20k? Many started with less. Once you know how to trade you DO NOT stay at the sub $100 base, hence the skewed stat you cite which is no doubt correct.

What most of the new traders do is work at UPS or at some help desk during the evenings and trade during the day. It helps if you can have lots of roommates or sleep in your car.

Yep- if you really want it, you'll do whatever it takes to get it.

Same old story, overnight success after years of hard work.

A lot of those who failed never really tried.

p.s. absolutely true that plenty of folks started with small beans (myself included), just saying that before you can get to true 'making a good living' status you have to cross that threshold of building a decent base to work from before kissing UPS goodbye

I also find it amusing that Soros' original plan was to make a million and retire.

He got married a few times and couldn't afford to.

or never tried one more time. was it michael marcus who said it cost him his marriage? that's alot to pay.

A link? Like this?

If you are an undercapitalized trader, trade on the floor at the Minneapolis Grain Exchange. $50/mo to lease a seat.

If you show up with $20K you'll be one of the better capitalized newbies.

that's why i'll never be a global player

no amount of money or prestige is worth getting woken up at 3 a.m. because a currency is tanking, trying to keep track of Brazilian bank auctions on a Sunday afternoon, cutting short your kid's birthday party because something is happening in Tokyo etc. etc. etc.

screw dat
