What Republicans Should Do

Quote from 377OHMS:

Excellent post.

Personally speaking, I've seen enough. I'm setting up to do a John Galt, basically a nearly total pullback from consumerism and taxation, at least until this Marxist is out of office.

Lol @ Obama is a Marxist.

I'm LOL at your total Alan Colmes style of militant libtardism.

Evidently in your mind you believe you have some credibility here when the reality is that you've been coasting with the credibility tank on E for some time now. Just libtard yammering.

Blah blah blah back at ya. Obama is no Marxist.

Quote from MarketMasher:

The largest amount of spending is in Defense. Yeah, there are too many social programs, but Defense is the real sacred cow that both sides rarely bring up.

I think the US spends more than the next couple of nations combined on Defense spending - but that is because it plays Global Policeman. If some of our politicians would debate whether they are For or Against continuing that role, it would show where they stand on trimming the largest expenditure.

Eisenhower warned of a military-industrial-Congressional complex when he left office (he was persuaded to remove the "Congressional" part before speaking, but it was in his original draft).

So - US as Global Policeman? Thumbs UP or Thumbs DOWN. Senator? Congressman? Bueller?....Bueller?.... :D

Maybe this is the reason military spending is the sacred cow. If US turns into dictatorship, military will remain at high levels. That being said, any dictatorship in US will have a difficult tiime staying in power, if history is any guide.

As long as they don't bring up the largest expenditure at all, they are all talking out of their ass.

I don't even care if they say they are FOR or AGAINST the US being World Policeman - just f'kin take a public stand on the issue and say why you would or would not consider Defense cuts - and by how much.

There is a chart of how much of GDP US spends on defense vs other countries somewhere....

Sorry folks. This is just a re-write of a mostly factually-false email that circulated in 2000. Gore was replaced with Obama and Bush was replaced with McCain for this latest version.

There is no stamp on the bottom of the foot of Lady Liberty saying U.S. liberty will perish in 200 years. We make our own destiny. Now buck up Bucky and be part of the solution instead of part of the problem. (Not directed at you Lucrum. Directed at the conspiracy types on this board that lap up these types of stories with vigor.)

Quote from Lucrum:
An email I received:
In 1887 Alexander Tyler, a Scottish history professor at the University of Edinborough, had this to say about the fall of the Athenian Republic some 2,000 years prior:

"A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government. A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse over loose fiscal policy, (which is) always followed by a dictatorship."

"The average age of the world's greatest civilizations from the beginning of history, has been about 200 years. During those 200 years, these nations always progressed through the following sequence:

From bondage to spiritual faith;
From spiritual faith to great courage;
From courage to liberty;
From liberty to abundance;
From abundance to complacency;
From complacency to apathy;
From apathy to dependence;
From dependence back into bondage."

The Obituary follows:

Born 1776, Died 2011
It doesn't hurt to read this several times.

Professor Joseph Olson of Hamline University School of Law in St. Paul , Minnesota , points out some interesting facts concerning the last Presidential election:

Number of States won by:
Obama: 19
McCain: 29

Square miles of land won by:
Obama: 580,000
McCain: 2,427,000

Population of counties won by:
Obama: 127 million
McCain: 143 million

Murder rate per 100,000 residents in counties won by:
Obama: 13.2
McCain: 2.1

Professor Olson adds: "In aggregate, the map of the territory McCain won was mostly the land owned by the taxpaying citizens of the country..

Obama territory mostly encompassed those citizens living in low income tenements and living off various forms of government welfare..."

Olson believes the United States is now somewhere between the "complacency and apathy" phase of Professor Tyler's definition of democracy, with some forty percent of the nation's population already having reached the "governmental dependency" phase.

If Congress grants amnesty and citizenship to twenty million criminal invaders called illegal's - and they vote - then we can say goodbye to the USA in fewer than five years

Respectfully disagree.

The next kill_aerospace_fire_whitey target will be the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter program. I've get 10 hot dollars that say the F-35 program will be cancelled by the end of 2011 leaving us mostly defenseless considering that F-15s and F-16s are coming apart in flight and cannot be retrofitted. Perhaps Obama will defend us with harsh words or maybe a few drones.

Didn't they kill further manufacture of the F-22 in favor of the F-35?

Yes sir, they did. Classic liberal "replace and cancel" strategy.

First they claim the F-35 is the replacement for the F-22 and cancel the F-22.

Now they're saying the F-35 "isn't good enough" and will cancel it. All the money will go towards redistributive policies and social justice malarkey. Panetta is the knife-man.
