Dollar is firming up rode it down about 500 pips. If there is a default looming, it is not showing in the currency markets.
They should never have let it come to this. Everyone knows that eventually the debt ceiling HAS to be raised. This was a dumb hill to die on. The increase only reflects spending that has already been authorized....BY CONGRESS!!
It would be better to wait and fight this out on appropriation bills, and/or wait until the Republicans can win a majority in both houses. They played this badly, they now know that and they are running for cover. F'ing idiots!

exactly. the republicans now control the purse strings. spending bills originate in congress.
they could pass cuts now if they had any sense. its not about cutting spending with them. its about destroying social programs.

Nonsense. It doesn't have to be raised. At this point I don't think it should be raised. Let the government figure out how to work with limited resources.
Hitting the limit will force the Obama regime to reduce its spending . Very simple. That is what the limit was put in place for.
If we default it is because Obama demanded massive tax increases. That is very clear.
Maybe Michelle would stop taking half-million-dollar vacations on our dime. She is the black Marie Antionette.
