What Really Happened In Charlottesville

I appreciate your attempt to be even-handed, but that is the kind of attitude that got us in the mess we're in. People wanted to be seen as compassionate and nice and respectful and made a fetish of obeying the law and court orders, accepting election results even when they were clearly fraudulent, eg Al Franken, etc etc. .

We are no longer in a world where that will work. In fact, it is the kind of approach that loses countries. Mitt Romney is moralizing about racists, but decent people are now afraid to even utter an opinion for fear of being beaten, fired or blacklisted. That, of course, is exactly the objective of the left. They will not stop with tearing down a few statues, I can promise you that.

I agree with you that it seems like the entire country has gone mad. I fear for how this plays out.
"They will not stop with tearing down a few statues, I can promise you that." No doubt that is true. It is a rock and a hard place decision. Appeasing the radical left is the road to ruin, as has been demonstrated time and again. I'm just looking at it from a reasonable and rational point of view. Yeah, stupid of me to think that has a chance in hell of working. The Twitter mob seems to rule the roost these days. Ain't gonna' end pretty for anyone.

The good thing about all of this is we are fast approaching the event horizon where eventually cries of bigotry will amount to absolutely nada. The left is doing everything it can to push absurdity to new heights, shrieking about the outrage to anyone with a microphone and camera. But they will eventually eat their own when they run out of normal people to go after (and by normal, I do not mean the white supremacists, but the rest of every day people who just want sanity to prevail).

I thought we had hit the event horizon with calling people racists, but now the left has 1 upped themselves the last few days watching T.V. people were allowed to repeatedly go unchalleneged on CNN saying shit like "Trump and everyone in the admin are nazis."

And "if you support Trump at this point you must be a nazi"

This kind of bullshit is now considered "mainstream" news.

For the first time in my adult life, im fucking angry, and im normally a pretty happy go lucky guy, this shit is going further and further and further, the "event horizon" as you put it is going to be ugly and its coming on fast, there is only so long that people are willing to let the media shit all over them with no reprecussions.

GWB could you chime in here for a second, what percentage of people in your industry(computer programming) are women? In my head i would guess it to be somewhere around the gaming levels where its probably about 10%-20% women.

I think women are fully capable of doing it but the fact of the matter is that even when given high priority with hiring opportunities women dont CHOOSE to do programming and gaming.

Thats just reality. Nine_Ender now thinks im a sexist.

Since im not a programmer, could you just tell us the numbers in your industry?

I know from personal experience that in the gaming industry 80-90% of people are men, that coincides closely with programmers, and computer people in most cases. (In my opinion)

What percentage of hardcore programmers that you have met are women?

Its sad i even have to go this route cause of morons like Nine_ender.

(This is called reality Nine_Ender, it has nothing to do with women being inferior, (I DONT THINK THAT AT ALL,) i just think its realistic to realise that women CHOOSE different careers/past times than men.))

I've worked in IT many years. IT is far more then coding. The fact that men dominate coding positions is totally irrelevant to anything I've said on this site. There are far less people "coding" now as their principal role then in the 1980s when I was coding. For example, my daughter works for a IT firm and has zero coding skills. She makes close to 6 figures only two years after graduating and many IT firms would fast track her into management. Her P Eng and people skills might have something to do with it. I'm sure she will encounter some male peers that resent her successes along the way.

In my life, I personally know many women who are successful in IT or engineering roles. The reality is it is YOU that lacks the exposure to women in these roles, not me, and it is you that insists on putting out there ignorant stereotypes about the world and insists that people accept them.

In my experience approximately 90% of the technical workers in the programming / IT industry are men. This is hardly surprising since it aligns with the percentage of CS graduates from universities.

There are many reasons given for this including biological differences to discrimination in the profession that drive women away from it. (This being said, the Google Manifesto author's screed went a bit overboard and would get you fired at nearly any company).

Many women who start in the profession as programmers make lateral moves to work in marketing, project management, etc. In my experience women tend to have excellent communication skills, good "EQ", and solid task organization -- and tend to excel in many of these roles - adding great value to companies.

There is no doubt that the Google engineer and some of the posters on here like "Max E." share similar beliefs about women in IT or other male dominated fields like engineering. It is sexism though, and irrelevant to who is suitable for certain roles in IT firms.

Oh wow, what What a fantastic argument, so because you know some women who code, that somehow changes the fact that 90% of programmers are men, thats just fantastic logic.

FWIW, ive met alot of good people on this site and seen a few douchebags, so because you are a douche, i guess the ratio is 50/50.

Where did anyone ever say women were not suitable for roles in IT? I think women are fully capable of working IT, when they choose to do it.

But Reality is the vast majority of women CHOOSE not to work in IT.

You can argue all day and continue setting up Strawmen, but no one here thinks women are incapable of working in IT, you are just making shit up.

I honestly think you might be the dumbest person i have ever seen posting on this site, and that is saying alot.

I never disputed nor stated an opinion on whether 90% of programmers are men. That is something you posted in reply to my post that had nothing to do with the post I made.

Your posts clearly indicate that you struggle with critical thinking and can't stay on topic. It is you that is being argumentative, rambling on, and I have no idea what you think is the "Strawmen" you refer to.

I don't doubt that you believe all this bs you post, but so what.

You are the most disingenous piece of shit i have ever seen, you tried arguing i was a sexist, for stating the obvious, now when the facts come out and your argument gets decimated you claim you were never making the argument to begin with.

You repeatedly argued my factual statement that 90% of people in IT are men, by throwing out useless bullshit like "I know a chick who works in IT" as if it changed the numbers, then you called me a sexist, even though only an idiot could ever interpret what i said as sexist, now after getting decimated you throw your hands in the air and say "I never argued with you.."

The only person in Canada whose vagina is bigger than yours is Justin Trudeau.
