What kind of workstation to buy? (Dell, HP,...please help a non computer guy)

It's very close. Of course a dedicated monitor will be better, but the new 4k TV's are really close. The one in my picture is 1st gen 4k TV, cheapest 4k TV on the market at the time, it's marginally acceptable as a monitor. But I will replace it with a 4k monitor eventually.

I am guessing that convergence with these technologies is less than 5 years away. I will definitely consider it in the future ( I am a perennial tire kicker.)

I like your endorsement as a coder. Thanks.

can you stop talking about 17 inch laptop screens? Nobody talked about it until you brought it up. We are talking average sized desktop monitors. An average screen today is 24-27 inches of size. 4 such displays are way larger than a 40 inch screen and text on 4 HD displays of 24-27 inches is way more legible than text on a 40 inch screen. And hardly anyone has a 40 inch screen on his desk let alone space for such screen. You are the only one here who does not get it and compares 17 inch laptop screens with a 40 inch large screen. At some point people start wondering about a person who keeps on hammering down the same stupid point.

You don't understand. A 40" monitor running 4k is the same font size as 20" monitor running at 1080P. Which is larger font than 17.3 laptop running at 1080P. And even larger font compared to 15.6 laptop running at 1080P. Like i said, it's not for everyone, especially if you're blind.

second your assessment fully. 4k on a 15 inch laptop is utterly ridiculous and outright stupid. Unless you wear glasses that look like bricks you simply cant read text on a 15 inch 4k screen, unless you scale up the resolution at which point a 4k display becomes absolutely moot.

Sometimes people on hardware threads on this website behave like some teenage kids, impressed by show-off technology, the bigger the number the better. geez.

That's an insane resolution for a 15" laptop -- I have the same size laptop, but I use 1366x768.

Alot of people like to brag about fancy, expensive, complicated trading setups...but I just use a $200 used laptop I got from eBay: HP red 15-f272wm

...and I'm pretty sure I beat their returns. Not to brag or anything, but just sayin o_O:sneaky:
Just some food for thought, or something to consider about your overall trading strategy and priorities and necessities.

I'll see if i can find a braille screen for you. Just because you can't read it doesn't mean others can't, maybe 4k is not for you. You have no concept 4k 40" monitor has larger font than a laptop doesn't mean it should be off the market. Stop your whining, you're starting to sound like a little girl. Stick to your 480p screen, no one cares.

You still don't get that this thread is not about laptops and laptop screens. Geez. How hard it must be for an arrogant and proud person to admit when they are wrong.

FYI it's about workstation. If you learn to read, you will understand my reply. I am explaining how 4k 40" monitor font is larger than a laptop after you said you can't read the characters. Based on your statement you cannot read laptop base resolution. My question to you. Are you clinically blind. No disrespect, I don't mean to make fun of blind people if you are. Or is your IQ single digit, that I do get...
BTW workstations are also portable, they come in the form of laptop. The highend portable workstations come 1080p resolution with 15.6 or 17.3 screen. I guess you never seen one since your close to blind. hahaha

a laptop workstation is silly, you are limited to a 17" screen at best. laptops are for moblie use only other than that they a re a PIA

That is a lie. I said 4k on anything smaller than 27inch is hardly legible without scaling up fonts. After which you started talking about 13 or 15 inch laptop screens. Please let's at least be honest even if we are stupid.

I stand by my big picture point: 4k screens on displays smaller than 27inch are NOT RECOMMENDED for Windows users because the font size is just way too small and many apps cannot properly scale (yet) and hence the visuals in apps look blurry when scaled up.

You're a liar, learn to read your own comments. The pic i posted is 4k 39" and you complained that is too small for anyone to read. FYI 39" is larger than 17.3 across 2 laptop screens but you don't understand that.
