What kind of cars do you guys drive?

My BMW 535 is a fun, somewhat sporty drive... though costly. At some point in life, however, you get over that and opt for "functional, reliable, affordable". Other than the zip of the Bimmer, I actually prefer my Subie Outback... can't say enough good things about it.

Over the years... I've had

4, BMWs
2, Audi A6
1, Audi 5000
3, Infiniti
1, Datsun 2000
1, Mercedes 280 SEL
And a few VWs and Hondas when I didn't have any money.

My favorite drive cars have been the BMW 535/335 & Datsun 2000 (A6 & Infiniti G20/G30 not far behind)
My favorite car overall has been Infiniti M... closely followed by my current Subaru Outback 3.6R. (Difficult to overstate what at great set of wheels the Subie is for the money.)

Nice! Sounds like spring lake to me ???

I use to rent a summer house in stone harbor --- got tired of the cold in NJ NY--- you can get a nice place on the intercoastal here for your cost and use it year around. I think you may eventually make the move.
 
Regarding cars--- im on my fifth range rover. Love these cars, but this will be my last high end new car. I finally realized just how stupid it is to buy new or nearly new--- next will be a classic MB 500sl or similar about 10 years old for under $15k.

Love Spring Lake (the Irish Riviera).
But technically there is no waterfront in Spring Lake. All the water view houses are across the street from the beach, and a decent size lot is about 4-5MM+ for a tear down! Some of the newer large family properties are low 8 figures.


Inter coastal is very nice, and although I can't stand the winters, I couldn't leave my family and friends.
But if that time does come, I think the Bahamas would be where I go to stick my feet in the sand.

Wow! I have not been there since early 2000's. My ex was a regular at the pool bar back in the day. Check out Baha Mar in Nassau if you are considering bahamas. surf
 
good end of year thread

currently: mine is 2007 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer with 148,000 miles (hope to get this to 250k)

as my main driver have had these since 1997..love the size and safety. this one is my favorite Expedition to date because of the bigger engine and options.

wifes car (which i bought): 2012 Land Rover HSE , 32,000 miles

the rover is a decent truck and it makes her happy which is all i care about. we shuttle the kids, gear and friends with these two SUV's 24/7 it seems.

i did all the sports cars in the past from bmw, corvette , trans am and now am very close to adding Tesla S as my next buy..good chance a preowned p85.
 
I got the Tesla this summer. Nice ride. This winter should be interesting with NE coldness and NJ roads. Might find myself using a mid 80's F150 if it gets as shitty as last year.
 
I test drove the Tesla about two months ago. It's an amazing car. If the car had an IC engine (and the benefits of the electric car were lost: quiet and huge acceleration) it would dominate the car market. Not enough charging stations when you leave the tri-state area and why would you want to wait 1/2 hour when filling a gas tank takes < 10 minutes.

I'm just south of you with a huge service center (on a Friday visit the manager kept me there nearly 2 hours talking and test drive). Also have at least 4 super chargers within 5 to 20 minutes from me.
Anyway, with two kids in prep schools and college near I do want to be somewhat prudent in my spending habits. Pre-owned even for an electric car has positives and I'm quite aware of the downside..hell I'm a trader!
 
Unfortunately for me the difference between us is like an hour but might as well be 1000 miles in terms of that infrastructure. A couple of guys in my town have them and you see the tesla service vans around. Tesla has done a great job of mitigating a lot of the risks of buying a car from a company without an extensive dealer network.

For now I will stick with what I have but I really want to want to buy one.
