That's because they think a financial trading career is more lucrative than a software career that requires banging out code from 9 - 5 every day. In other words, saying you're a software engineer makes you look like a geeky propeller head, whereas a financial trader translates into yachts and private jets in their minds, even though that assumption may be completely false.
I saw this vid, with an ex special forces vet and how he would have PTSD problems while in public or parties.
He said something like
,,You would go to the parties & there would be all kinds of successful people like stock traders, actors etc"
But then i met this english teacher before covi.
Guy was living in the same hostel, eating cabbages etc, to save the monies. Saw me few times looking at charts. Next thing you know, he became a ,,stock trader", in, 3 weeks.
No punchline.

nice, i think plays also an evolutionary factor, a trader communicates excitement, courage, control, initiative, instead a nerd software engineer communciate no interpersonal skills, few emotions, not a macho attitude that unconsciously is less attractive. Then yes I see, they think about yachts, make sense
What do women want in a man for long term relationship?
1. Money (and likes to spend it)
2. Looks (face/height/physique) and good in bed.
3. Charisma/personality and low mental issues (not easily prone to anxiety/depression etc).
4. If no high score for number 3, but still likes to do fun things often (eg has a social life and wants to take fun vacations)
There are obviously exceptions, but most good Software Engineers have only number 1 going for them. And if they are a miser (don't enjoy spending money) they don't really have that one.
Many women will immediately put all Software Engineers into the same box.
She doesn't want to waste time on the small chance he is one of the exceptions.
