What is the point of living?

There is no real point in living other than sense of being. And by being, I mean an ongoing being before and after this life. This is what all religion is based upon and gives us our inherent sense of right and wrong. For without this, there is no reason to be civil and appreciative. We would just go ahead and destroy each other immediately.

Likely we reincarnate --not necessarily on this planet. One would hope that all the Ted Bundys go to one place and others go elsewhere. --When some people at "Elsewhere" reveal themselves to be demons, a further weeding is done in next lives and so on and so on. --Probably why the universe is so large and still expanding.

Joking aside, there is no objective, universally accepted reason for living, no matter how so many religions try to tell you otherwise. With my collecting stamps example I was trying to show that everyone has to find their own meaning and fulfillment. Some never find it, some find several reasons and some don't even bother, that is not to say they are worse off then the ones who keep searching for meaning in everything. Blessed are the ignorant...

Also your meaning of life doesn't even have to be a positive one. I mean it is generally considered to be nicer, but some find meaning making others miserable. Philosophically speaking that can be just as fulfilling as family, or helping people, etc,etc...

But then again, isn't this beauty worth dying for?:

PURPOSE,, the truer the purpose the more reason to live.

Being able to ask questions like that seems like a good enough start to me.

Despite the horrors humans are capable of, the saving grace of human nature is our ability to question ourselves and our intent. To turn inward, analyse and change course should we deem it appropriate. To measure our actions against the optimal as we see it. Then act on those higher principles we have found within.

You could read Marcus Aurelius' Meditations, Montaigne's Essays, Seneca's letters, Epictetus' Discourse etc. Or for the cliff notes version watch Monty Python's Meaning of Life ;)

What struck me in reading the above, was the fact that they were questioning the same things we do in modern/contemporary times. Humans have always asked questions like this. The fact that we still question provides the very reason to go on does it not?

I also suggest the little book below for about only 130 pages of main text would be a fairly useful and practical one for daily life.

Stoic Serenity: A Practical Course on Finding Inner Peace
by Keith Seddon

BTW: This book can be read/studied by itself alone, without needing any other books.

Maybe also :
The Daily Stoic: 366 Meditations on Wisdom, Perseverance, and the Art of Living Hardcover – October 18, 2016
by Ryan Holiday

Joining an online forum group, or local meetup.com group, for Stoics could be useful as well for getting feedback about this topic. imo

Just 2 cents.

What is the real point of living?
I don't really subscribe to the hedonistic lifestyle of enjoying life and having fun because I am constantly aware of the pollution my actions and existence are causing.
Think of all the plastic bottles /containers I will use over my entire life, all the fuel my cars would consume over my lifetime or all the poop I will poop over my lifetime. All the enjoyment in the world is not worth the destruction this pollution will cause to our beautiful planet.
Also whatever fun /enjoyable memories I make by living will all fade away and be wiped out by death. So there is no point in destroying the planet with pollution in exchange for something which is temporary.
Yet people continue to reproduce and bring more humans into existence knowing full well that their lives will cause even greater pollution in exchange for their existence which is brief, temporary and fleeting. When does this all end? What is the whole point of this cycle of birth and death from generation to the next when all it is causing is for pollution to go up and the planet to deteriorate at an exponential rate!

imo, perhaps one possible potential answer would be To know and find God (= Fate), in a Stoicism way!

I think, there is always a continuity for puzzling over, learning, updating, creating and transferring knowledge and wisdom from one generation to next generation. In the forms of words, acts and writing etc.

The ongoing mystery of encountering our Fate (individually and collectively), and striving to puzzle over/ learn/ update/ create/ transfer new knowledge and wisdom about anything that now we don't know yet, now we can't see yet, now we don't understand yet, etc. would be very much worth our daily living. I'd guess.

Some trained professionals are able to carry out this kind of searching process with systematic approaches - Science!

"The Argument Against Creation "

God created and maintains everything. There is no argument at all.

God knows the answer, of course. But nobody knows or understands how and why about everything including creation. Why would we think we should be able to know and understand everything?

God is everything - including everything we know, we don't know yet (e.g. ET), and we can never know; everything we see, we can't see yet (e.g. dark energy/matter), and we can never see; everything we understand, we don't understand yet (e.g. avoiding wars), and we can never understand; etc; etc.

Everything also includes what we call Creation, which is just one of God's mysteries!

We shouldn't waste our time/ energy in certain things, as we should be doing so many other more meaningful and productive things.

Some people including asylums are still homeless! That is the kind of practical issues people should spend time and energy in with priority.

There are lots of reasons for living once you look outward at serving your brothers/sisters and stop looking inward.
