What is the Mercedes Benz of trading software

Quote from journeyman:

loved the motorbike analogy in that excellent post!

but I am just a ignorant chap and fail to understand the reference to "fix". what is this?

The Financial Information eXchange (FIX) Protocol is a messaging standard developed specifically for the real-time electronic exchange of securities transactions. FIX is a public-domain specification owned and maintained by FIX Protocol, Ltd

Since merging with Chrysler, Mercedes ain't what it use to be. :)

Finally, and a newcomer to the game, though one with lots of potential, is TradersStudio, we might see good things to come from this new kid on the block, it's future looks bright.

Thank you for the nice comments. We are trying hard and using customer feedback at TradersStudio to make this the best trading software on the market at a affordable price, still only $499.00.

ryancohen, there isn't one product the magazines drool over or only the wealthy can afford so it depends on your needs. I love Ensign because I can't programme and it does just about everything I can imagine. It's not good for backtesting but I'm not a fan of backtesting. Great charts are useless if live support is poor and Ensign scores 10/10 here. I have direct access to the creator and both myself and personal friends have contacted Howard with requests/ideas that he has written into the software. Just about every week traders play a big part in shaping Ensign, hence if you look at the "What's New" section under "Downloads" at ensignsoftware.com you can get a feel for a product that is constantly evolving. But if you want to backtest or programme, look elsewhere.

You bring up very good point regarding LIVE tech support. Its a MUST have,as email support just doesnt cut it.

If you are a backtester and trade equities, take a look at traders Studio. It has features no one else in the market has,or at least within $1000 of their price.Their tech support is excellent, and they are very responsive to customer input.

They are coming out with a major upgrade sometime this month. If you are interested, feel free to email me and Ill let you know what I think

I don't think that there is a really ideal solution. It depends on what you most prefer. Do you prefer auto trading or do you prefer fast backtests, etc...
The only way is to test every software i think.
I have tested also a lot of programs. Some programs have been looking very great at the first glance, but later i have seen some missing parts.
The last years i most often use amibroker and i am happy so far.

I have never used this, but it looks good.

Maybe someone who is a subscriber can tell us his impression.

I have demoed Neoticker and from the short time I used it,I thought it was a great product...Its definetly worth taking a look at,especially if you are an intraday trader.

The truth is all these products are great products. They each have their own strengths and weaknesses, the question is which one fits best with your approach to trading.
