I doubt that half would be coming from body fat. A rough calculation shows that you need per day approximately 2500 kcal in energy. 4 days is thus a total of 10,000 kcal. If you don't eat at all this has to come from stored body fat. 1 pound of body fat contains approximately 3100 kcal. You would therefore need less than 3.5 pounds of body fat to serve your energy needs for these four days.11 to 12 pounds in 4 days.
Some is water weight. I would guess up to half.
No way you lost 6+lbs of fat in 4 days. My guess would be 1-2lbs fat, 1-2lbs muscle and the rest water. You are going about it the wrong way. You are killing your metabolism and rewiring your body to increase fat storage at the first opportunity. You will not like the results once you bring back your calories in line with your maintenance. At the end of this exercise when you lose 10lbs of fat and 10lbs of muscle you will be in worse shape than when you started despite being 20lbs lighter.
really thank you for the input. I am taking it all in.
regarding the reset of my metabolism.
I am pretty sure all diets I was considering would suffer from this issue.
However, I am now pretty convinced that there are ways to deal with that reset.
I plan to re commence time restricted eating or Intermittent Fasting when this fast is done.
I also plan to do some more High Intensity Interval training.
Regarding the choice of how I am doing it. My body told me the 3 water fast was correct. I have no doubt that was the way to start this off... for me.
I am not sure how long my juice fast will last. Juicing today did make me hungry.
I note this may not be the ideal way to do it... but I needed to see a big change to keep me motivated.
Its like the way day trading was for me when I did it. The day I started talking off half at a shorter target I became profitable. Booking profits has a big effect on me.
If there is an truth to time restricted dieting... I will keep most of my weight loss off once I begin eating again.
Good luck jem. The first 3 weeks are the hardest, the plateaus are the second hardest hurdle.
so switching to juice for me was not a good idea for me. It made me hungry...
(I did probably veer to much to the smoothy side rather than just juice.)
Recap...
I lost about 11- 12 pounds on the water fast. I stayed about even during a 4 day juice fast.
When I started eating solid food I gained 4 pounds the first 5 days to a week.
But, I have lost most of that gain by lifting hiking and intermittent fasting.
I am now about 10 to 11 pounds lighter than when I began fasting.
My belt is in 2 notices. I feel good.
Plus so far I am the only person in my family to not get destroyed by the flu.
I find myself wanting to water fast again. However, I am not sure that would be a good idea.
At the moment the intermittent fasting is working for me really well. Working out in the morning. Eating a carne asada burrito for lunch and normal dinner, is something I could stick to for a long time... I think.
There is something odd about the power of a carne asada burrito.
10 years ago I lost 20 pounds in a month just eating carne asada burritos. I was eating 2 a day and working out everyday. ( my family was away so I had no distractions.) I think the key is to find as much real avocado on it as possible. these days there is far less avacado in the guacamole at most taco shops.
