What is that one thing that has been a game changer for you?

I was referring to the statement from people that the best performance comes from KISS. To me KISS can never beat complex trading systems. And surely not with the performance that I mentioned.

My personal experience, going from zero knowledge 25 years ago till today, is that the discretionary part has become much easier then what I was trading in the beginning. So that contradicts what you say. I saw and still see the difference. Signals much clearer, almost no losing trades and signals are faster/sooner clear than it was in the beginning. I am now most of the day waiting, while in the beginning I had to watch and analyze the whole day what was going on. I went from crazy, chaotic to calm at a much lower pace. Discretionary does not always have to be complex or difficult.

The first 10 years I lost (a lot of) money. When I started trading the ES I would have signed for 1 point net every day. Now I am happy I did not. I limit my trading account to a decent size. All the profits are transferred to other accounts for other investments. So I will never be filthy rich, but I will also never go broke as I took already so much profits out of my trading account that I can wipe out my trading account 10 times in a row and still have enough cash to start again or to stop trading. My trading account represents only a small percentage of my net worth. It happens every now and then (especially since last year) that I double my account in 1 trading day (50 points at $50 for a margin of $2,500) thanks to the increased volatility.:)
Don't want to offend but if you have the money to start 10 times over, why not once double your trading account and keeping it in there?

Because I don't need that to have a comfortable life. If you have a good income you have to choose between living for work or work for aliving. I worked very hard for decades, now I want to enjoy life. Making money is not on my priority list anymore. I still trade because I like it.

If I would double it, I would get the question: why not double it again? It will never stop. I don't need to be the richest man on the graveyard.

People have three choices in life:
  1. Never work and prefer to be poor.
  2. Always work and have no life.
  3. Work till you reach a comfortable level, then limit the work and maximize enjoying life.
Besides that I have children. I prefer to help them with growing their account if they wish to trade.

Entertainment then? You trade to keep busy and for the challenge. Not unlike going to the casino.

If you enjoy trading and you can afford the loss, then it isn't work. If you can increase your net worth by doing something you enjoy that seems to be a win/win situation. Why wouldn't you let your account grow?

great points re rules, ddog, since following your posts here I'm much better at it ... thx!

game-changer for me is lots of small trades, re-entries, super-tight stops, eg .1 on 300 shares

that, and manually tightening up trailing stops as a daytrade moves in my favor, < .1

I like to beat the market. Each time when I win it gives a good feeling. But trading should not feel like an obligation anymore. I had to do it under a lot of pressure during many years, so I don't have the drive anymore nor the energy. And I discovered a lot of pleasant things in life that I had no time for during many years. My trading adventure costed me my first marriage as I was married with my computer and the futures market. Found a new wife and don't want to make the same mistake again.

I never wanted to be poor, and I never wanted to work my whole life. So I chose the only option that was left, choice 3. Why do people start to work part time if they can work full time? Because they make a choice.

I see you make great returns. Why not take a few millions credit and make more money?

Risk management. Capital preservation is priority number 1.

With your returns there is room for decent risk management and capital preservation. You decided not to do that, while others would probably do it.
So each person has his own reasons to do what he does.
That's always the answer if people ask: "why don't you do this or that?"

I think we are on the same page. I took early retirement and manage to live comfortably. If I want to go somewhere I fly first class but don't have my own private jet. I enjoy the challenge of trading and have been fortunate enough to do well at it. The kids will have a nice start when I drop dead and I get to see some pretty big smiles at Christmas when they look at their cheques. Being happy is a choice!! :)

MARRIAGE[/paste:font]
A deluded Alabama man who “married” his MacBook computer is suing state officials for refusing to recognize the nuptials.

Chris Sevier, who “married an object in New Mexico with female-like features,” said Blount County Probate Judge Chris Green “arbitrarily denied” his request for a new marriage license because Green found his relationship to be “morally repugnant,” according to his federal lawsuit.

The self-described “machinist” has filed multiple lawsuits involving his blushing computer bride, including one that sought to force a baker to make a wedding cake for the odd couple.

The cyber nut, a former attorney who lives Oneonta, filed his latest suit on behalf of a trio of polygamists who also want their marriage to each other recognized by the state of Alabama.

“The governor is overseeing laws that give benefits to homosexuals who are married but not machinists, zoophiles, and polygamists in violation of both the First and Fourteenth Amendments,” the suit said.

Sevier also accuses the Attorney General’s Office, which is named as a defendant, of giving “special treatment” to gays in the rambling, 46-page complaint first reported by AL.com.

Green told AL.com that he denied the plaintiffs’ marriage requests because they made them over the phone and not in person.

“I just said I wouldn’t do that in Blount County,” he said. “No way, no how.”

He also said state law doesn’t permit him to issue marriage licenses to polygamists – or people seeking to marry an “inanimate object.”

In 2014, Sevier said he married a pornography-laden machine after he began “preferring sex with my computer over sex with real women.”
