I don't agree with much of what Surfer says like I don't agree with much that you say but I respect both of you for your right to believe and practice what you want. That is common knowledge on these boards. Once you reach adulthood you might understand that.
You can choose not to associate with a diverse group of individuals just because of your personal opinions of one of them and that is your prerogative. Personally I think the evening will be a wonderful chance to interact with a lot of different mind sets.
The rest of your life will be made up of having to interact with individuals that have different opinions than your own. Hopefully you won't treat each of those occurences like you interact in these forums.
