What is important in a trading platform?

@hpe "retail" is not one group. There are varying degrees of experience, and some are not any less sophisticated than institutional traders/risk managers.

However, I have found that the more experience a trader has the more he is focused on execution and reporting, and those who are starting out and/or beginners look for number of users. They want to know how many use that platform so they could be in a large group of users. Also, they look for feature rich capabilities even if they don't always use them.

This is typically what I have found, and of course there are exception to every rule.
In my personal opinion, after looking at our questions, your survey will be skewed and may lead you to the wrong conclusions. If you are seeking to build a software, built it for yourself as a trader. Focus on this you would want as a trader, and I bet there would be others that may look for the same features.

Although I worked with retail traders for almost 2 decades, I still listen to each trader to see what they need precisely and what is important to them. Everyone is different.

I hope this helps.
thanks for your reply, it certainly makes sense even if it wasn't what I was looking for. I think you are right, the answers to what I asked will perhaps guide you if you choose between MT4 and Ninja, but perhaps not much else...

Are you mainly interested in Futures?

no, first off I asked more to understand the criteria retail users look at. My own experience is more on the institutional side ad thus I was curious of the difference.
Personally, I am interested in a platform for pair-trading... I have seen little support for that... then again i can not use it if I do find it as I am too restricted from my employer in order to do any kind of serious trading.

You are welcome. I would try to focus on those traders who have 7+ years of active and continuous experience. Just like marriage, if you endured seven years + of pleasure/pain, you may have some valuable input.

What to me is very important is that the buttons you click on (like Buy Market, Sell Market, Buy Bid, Sell Bid, Cancel all, Reverse...) should be BIG ENOUGH.

One of the platforms I use (Firetip) has very small buttons leading to wrong trades as I sometimes click the wrong button as they are very small. I don’t understand how they could make these buttons so small.

Size of the buttons is 28 mm wide and 4 mm high!!!! it is each time a big job try ing to click on the correct button, especially if I have to be quick. And they call it a PROFESSIONAL platform??????

Is Real Tick is bound to Lightspeed brokerage or can you use the platform with other brokerages?
For Futures you can use it with different FCMs.
