What is happening to men?

It would have been better to ask what's happening to women since it's their attitudes and expectations that have changed most over the years. Men in general just don't know what to make of it all. Qualities men offered women in the past, such as protection and financial support, are no longer prized, with the government being there as a fall-back husband to all women.

It is women that are changing, the men are just scurrying for cover. It's the women that are now portrayed in the media as being independent and capable of beating the lights out of any man, no matter how anorexic she may be. It really is becoming a joke and it's reflected in the increasing number of Western men marrying Asian women.

Quote from cap'ncod:

Nice guys who have a sentimental outlook are the ones who usually get hurt the most. Men and women want things in life that they have access to. We don't know what these things are unless we discove then explore them. Perhaps we can only find happiness if seek new areas of exploration, without and within. Some women are strong enough to attempt this but often if you feel your horizons are limited you will seek to impose order in a small world. Animals go crazy in cages.
Yes, it is those that put themselves at the greatest risk that suffer the most. A letter to a mother:

Executive Mansion, Washington, Nov. 21, 1864

Dear Madam,

I have been shown in the files of the War Department a statement of the Adjutant-General of Massachusetts, that you are the mother of five sons who have died gloriously on the field of battle.

I feel how weak and fruitless must be any words of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tendering to you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic they died to save.

I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours, to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of Freedom. Yours, very sincerely and respectfully,

Abraham Lincoln

A poignant letter written by a true politico. The mother's world was her sons. Yes, she lost everything. The sons' world was adventure (look how many men in europe volunteered for duty in WW1. This was until the truth of the hell that was the western front got back to the provinces). Risk is part of our core. An appetite for it indicates courage and character in both men and women. I think notions of ownership and possession are interesting areas to look at.

Yah. My point is that it is up to women to be practical. Men are by nature designed to take great risk. What greater risk is there than not finding the woman that turns you into a knight?

I say throw caution to the wind and put it on the line...

Finding a mate is our be-all and end-all. We seek women to identify our qualities, mirrors that will reflect our worth and give us confidence. Who can then reproduce us. Women have enormous power over the average male. They can make him believe he is a prince or crush his esteem. If we can move beyond the sentimental claptrap of hollywood for a moment, fantasy often clouds the reality. Make- up and smoke and mirrors. I'm attracted to women but I see my own weakness in being so. Self-possession is way better than being taken by another, no matter how much of a fairy tale we may believe awaits us.

You obviously have yet to be arse raped via divorce, something that never happened in the now fantasy world of old that you appear to be drawn to. The reality is that it's women that have changed, not men. So what's behind the change? "Pesticide Turns Male Frogs into Females

A commonly used pesticide known as atrazine can turn male frogs into females that are successfully able to reproduce, a new study finds.

While previous work has shown atrazine can cause sexual abnormalities in frogs, such as hermaphroditism (having both male and female sex organs), this study is the first to find that atrazine’s effects are long-lasting and can influence reproduction in amphibia..."

"....In the early 20th century biologists discovered that these frogs were unusually sensitive to human chorionic gonadotropin, a hormone produced by pregnant women. The frogs gained popularity as a low-cost pregnancy test in the 1940s and 1950s. Doctors would inject a frog with a woman's urine, and if she was pregnant, the frog would ovulate and produce eggs in 8 to 10 hours..."

"...Do endocrine disrupters cause prostate problems?
Frederick vom Saal, of the University of Missouri, Columbia, exposed mouse fetuses to tiny doses of the estrogen-like chemical bisphenol A, found in plastic dental sealants and food- can linings. The mice that emerged had enlarged prostates overburdened with receptors for testosterone as well as testes that produced fewer sperm than usual. Based on these studies, vom Saal hypothesizes that a corresponding overload in men could lead to increased vulnerability to prostate enlargement and perhaps to a decline in sperm count...."

Their bacula, or penis bones, were on average nearly seven inches long. (Most male carnivores and rodents
have bones in their penises.)
The scientists found the higher the level of organohalogens in a polar bear, the smaller the testicles and baculum likely were. Ovary size and weight among females also decreased as organohalogen levels rose..."

This is not a completely accurate use of this quote.
Yes, there are aspects of life that depend solely on an individual's mental set (which is basically what the film is about).
However, there are cultural forces that change and impose themselves on those that no longer fit into its frame and this has little to do with the individual and everything to do with the outsisde world. In other words, try telling a Jew the above quote in 1930s Nazi Germany.

Women have changed. Pre-teen girls walking around like sluts, women sleeping around and calling it empowering. It's all bull and men dare not say it. These are facts and they are not pretty.
