What is better: using a simple moving average or price action?

Really ? LOL. It is the average of PAST periods.
so in price action you do not look at the past bars: do you consider only the last bar printed?

do you not look at price action in past periods
also known as context.

The moving average shows you in glance the context.

Gee, wow....it broke the 200 day MA....I bet I can short it before GS, Citadel, Steve Cohen....
if the 200 day ma is sloping upward then it is better to wait to see if it comes back up.
if the 200 ma is sharply upward and all the other shorter moving averages are SHARPLY down then you can look to go long.
do you look only at 200 ma?:D

Your post "show me the lag". By definition anything past is lagging. Even the 5 min is lagging in ref to the 1 min. Lagging is not necessarily bad, but you have to acknowledge what it is in order to make an informed decision.

If you were to drive from Seattle, Wa to Sarasota, Fl, would you get directions ever few miles or have a map? In days of old on wind sailing ships, maps were called charts, they usually always steered by the stars, so there be star charts.

The trouble with just learning moving averages is you be taking trades when the charts are showing reversals, you be taking trades when chart is showing the medium highs are in, or where support/resistance is, there are at least 100 points at a minimum for me of when not to take otherwise good signals, and learning is an ongoing activity on charting. But once learned, you have it a lifetime.

Actually, all the indicators I use lag, lagging reduces trading and longer your study indicators, you will learn where the highs/lows are most likely to turn. And using what everyone else is use, that depends on one's definition of "everyone", if it is retail-no edge, if commercial-I want to tailcoat, volume drives price.
where do moving averages show reversals? do not consider crossovers...there are many other ways to use moving averages

Obviously you missed my point.

in that case price action is also past or are you analyzing future price action

Obviously you missed my point.
