What is "after-hours trading"?

after hours is also pre-market..or before hours trading? especially during earnings season you will see money being made AFTER HOURS and BEFORE HOURS or PRE-marketFor stocks, whilst there might be lots of excitement involved in after-hours trading, mostly liquidity is terrible during this time.
Futures are a different beast.

Something I’ve never looked into is why liquidity is low. Is it because designated market makers can’t trade, they don’t want to trade? Because of the amount of participants in closing auctions shutting it down after?
