What is a similar alternative to NinjaTrader?

MC lets you configure multiple data sources at the application level so they are available for use within a chart. A data source can be a dedicated data feed, a broker connection, or combination of the two. For example, I use IQFeed as a dedicated data connection for stocks and futures, Oanda for Forex data and trading, and IB as my stock/futures broker.

When you create a chart, you select the data source and instrument to chart. If the selected data source for your chart does not provide broker services, you can "map" your chart's instrument to your broker's instrument. Placing a trade on the chart directs all order to your mapped broker. Once you've mapped the data source/broker symbols those mappings are available on all charts. Having to maintain mappings is the only downside to this feature. It's not automatic during contract rollover. For example, continuous contracts from IQFeed have to be mapped to the next front month IB symbol.

Hope this helps.
Interesting, thanks. I imagine the best thing to do is take a demo for a test drive. I will look into that.

Are you aware of any other platforms with a similar interface and capability to NT?

Yes, I know these things can be easily and very nicely done in NinjaTrader since I have been using NT for years. But it looks like I will need to make a change as a result of their latest update which limits the brokers with whom I can use this software. My loss, since I have grown to really like this platform.

What latest update? Did they impose further limits? It's been years since this first happened.

FWIW, I'm a happy customer with their own brokerage for futures trading.

On the competing forum site whose name shall not be mentioned Ninjatrader was the preferred software, but I know many moved on to Sierra Charts and prefer that. I think it's a better platform, but the learning curve is allegedly steep, so that made me stop in my tracks.

I've heard good things about MotiveWave, too, but never used it myself.

There have been no non-NinjaTrader Brokerage limitations introduced as of late. In fact, I am pretty sure the same brokerage options exist today as they did in 2015 with the exception that we did add additional brokerage options for FX trading through our integration with cTrader platform.

If there is something specific you feel your are missing, DM us.

Going from Version 8.0.27.1 to 8.1.1.3 and back again caused me some problems. I think they are unique to my circumstances and would not affect other users. I'm sure you don't need to worry about it if you're using NT presently.

I had a look at Sierra some years back, but it looked to have a fairly steep learning curve and, if I remember correctly, I don't think it allowed for backup of all files and configurations. That troubled me since I would not want to go through the whole configuration process again if my computer crashed or if I got a new one.

Thanks for suggesting MotiveWave. I'm still hoping I can somehow stay on NinjaTrader, but if not I suppose I will go with something like MultiCharts.

Just a quick note to let you guys know that my technical issue with NinjaTrader was resolved. All is well again. Thanks to everyone who offered suggestions and advice.
