What in trading is patentable?

When I was at ETG, Bob Kanter got a patent for some of his rules of trading. Some were rejected because they were already in the public domain. I never saw the actual patent, but I was told he tried to get one on all his rules but was only successful on about 2/3rds. Since he taught me to trade, does that make me in violation if I use the rules?

Bob Kanter? A Patent? Maybe a copyright for his trader education videotapes, or a trademark for his "Kanter's Top Ten Trading Rules", but I don't see how he would patent a set of general rules. They don't serve any of the purposes outlined by the patent office. Seems this discussion is becoming more and more abstract.

I wonder who owns.. "Cut your losers and let your winners run"

I still am going to have to agree with the keep it to yourself mantra.

You think of that all by your self? *clap*

Just playing, good to see you are still around Runningbear.

This thread is patently absurd.

Well I don't know who gives a chit, but yep. It's true. Just look in any of his books.

And this is from Tom DeMark (supposedly) on another board:

at the advice of my attorneys, i was instructed to trademark all
indicators i discuss and share. given the nature of this business and
potential legal risks, they wanted to protect me from any lawsuits which
may arise from second-third hand use or distribution. they wanted me to
control the individuals who may commercialize the indicators to protect
me from any liability. in other words, had an unauthorized, incorrect
version of the indicators be promoted and misrepresented with outrageous
results or missing key components, they did not want me to become a
party to a lawsuit.

So any of you guyz that are using his patterns will have to stop right now or pay up! :D

Sounds like someone does not know how to negotiate legal fees and was "bullied" by lawyers. What an idiotic statement, some folks will stop at nothing in the name of "marketing" ridiculous!
