What If... Apple buys Evergrande's EV unit?

What would happen if troubled Evergrande's Electro Vehicle unit gets bought by Apple, since Apple some months ago was desperately seeking for an EV/NEV partner but couldn't find any yet.

No way China is going to allow the selling of such a potentially lucrative business unit to a foreign company. EV is the future, especially for China. I even suspect China's current liquidity and credit squeeze of Evergrande and the stubborn refusal to bail it out is just to get their hands on Evergrande's EV unit, and to get it cheap tbh. Even more than what the West is decoupling from China, China is fast decoupling from the West and aggregating and consolidating capitals and funds within its own border. The last thing it will want to see foreign companies getting their hands on Chinese companies/technology.

And actually for foreign companies, they have to be very very very careful investing in China and with any Chinese companies now. China operates in a very different cultural environment that dictates how things are done in a way that is unfathomable here but is perfectly acceptable and even applauded over there. They just kidnapped two foreigners and detained them for no reason for three years with no due process or legal counsel and they see that as perfectly fine and even heroic while we see that as totally unacceptable and even barbaric. If they can kidnap people at will like that, what is not to say they won't kidnap your money? This could be anybody who invests in any of these countries who do not operate according to rules of law. If I were APPLE, I would stay out and just invest to develop EV in here if it wants to. Plenty of capitals here.

@JSOP, don't forget the chronology: first it was the US who let the Canadians kidnap the CFO of Huawei... The Chinese just reacted to that event. And later they made a deal to swap the accused people...

What about TSLA in China? It's very successful, also there.
And many of the biggest German companies are making most of their profits nowadays in China...

I think you misunderstand China. It is the US who plays dirty games against China, for example in hi-end semiconductor tech. Does the US really believe they can hinder the Chinese to develop the technology? I mean it's just a matter of time. Such a dumb, ugly, silly, headless and futile geopolitical dirty game by the US, which is just shooting into its own foot as time will show again and again... :) Much like when the US blocked participation of China in space tech (ISS) :) China has now its own space program that can compete with the US. Well done Uncle Sam :) The US is ruled by idiocracy :)
The US has to change course into direction cooperation, not confrontation.

And: you have to accept the laws and the culture of the foreign country if you want to do business there. It's so simple. Some Americans think they are exceptional and only their word is law everywhere on the planet... :-)

Canada didn't kidnap her. She was detained at the specific request of the US government and we mistakenly ( imo ) complied as per the treaty. Of course, Trump was involved in all of this. And everything Trump touches turns to shit. Innocent victims because of this American political bs and the usual Chinese military govt tactics. Canada was the only innocent party in the whole mess.

I don't want to get into the political rhetoric here, who did what first and then whatever. Even what China did was just "reacting" to what USA and/or Canada did, then this illustrates even further why the West shouldn't have anything to do with China. The West should not deal with a country that can "react" to things with force and not with rule of law. What is not to say China won't "react" again to how things become? What if one day China decides it didn't like what Apple did and it wants to "react" by freezing all of Apple's money or worse do something to Apple's CEO? What's to stop China from doing that? Apple would've lost all of its money and even with its owner's life in danger and what are we supposed to do? Co-operate with China by catering to China's every single whim and wish? So from now on, we have no say in our own business affairs and no say in protecting our own financial interest and wellbeing and basically it's what China says, we obey? China says "jump", we jump and China says "stay", we kneel down? China says "you give us all of your money and we give you back a small % just for you to repair some broken bridges back home" and we bow and say "thank you"? This is the kind of "co-operation" that China has in mind? LOL

And don't use TSLA as what some kind of "model foreigner". LOL Whatever TSLA does is TSLA's choice. It chooses to take the risk to invest in a country that can make its money and everything that it's worked for disappear at any time at a snap of a finger, it's his choice. Personally I think it's very imprudent of Elon Musk to open its manufacturing plant in China but that's Elon Musk; he's known to do imprudent things. LOL

EXACTLY! You should've told Huawei that before this Meng women decided to defraud US bankers about its subsidiary's action in Iran while on US soil. Huawei wanted to do business in the USA it should've obeyed US law. Fraud is a crime in US and in pretty much all of the countries around the world.
