Quote from ProfLogic:
Low skilled labor will never get scarce in a stable market environment.
As far as national fast food restaurants go; they do not hire illegals. They risk loosing their franchises if they are caught in any illegal activity. With the cost of those franchises, only the stupid ones or the ones in areas where they could pay off the local authorities take that risk. Even if there were some that did it would not effect the consumer prices, just their profits due to the intense competition in that industry.
Minimum wage is a minimum of $5.15 at a federal level. Most of these jobs should be filled by teenagers, college students and retirees returning to the workforce either for part-time or full time positions as supplemental income. Again, there are plenty of these individuals to replace the illegals currently in those positions.
Those working in the lowest filthy positions and employed by the scum employers taking advantage of them should be put out of business anyway. Vacating those illegals in those situations would take care of two problems.
I don't know where you live but burgers and gas aren't cheap, they are reasonable. Burgers are discussed above and gas distillation and exploration doesn't hire illegals either.
If the illegals go away there will always be someone to fill the legitimate positions.
1) Most fast food places hire illegal immigrants they just don't know it. go to LA to a Mexican neighborhood, it is not hard to find people selling soc sec numbers that belong to deceased people.
2) minimum wage is not 5.15 it is $7.35/hr
3) I have never seen an American who is willing to work in filthy and unhealthy conditions for minimum wage. I have never seen it
4) I live in Houston and you can get food so cheap here, you wonder how much the restaurants are paying for workers.
