What has this world come to??

Well, I'm sure I'm in the minority, but have strong feelings about teachers salaries. I don't have kids, and I'm not employed in the education field, but in order to attract quality people to a certain career, isn't pay one of the biggest things. Working conditions are big too, and with today's attitude towards parenting, I can see why someone wouldn't want to teach, and have to raise people's children who have no respect for authority. Addressing one's teacher by their first name? I would never have even thought of it. The kid is active? Can't have that, give them a pill to stay quiet in the corner so I can crash from my stressful day...

If we had more traditional families, instead of so many single mothers with kids who have no father figure in their lives, and people started truly parenting, and the pay, for what I consider the most important job in society, was higher to reflect that importance, we'd attract the best people to teaching, instead of what we have now.

This is why our society is in trouble.
 
I'm aghast at the insensitivity being displayed here. What about the kids who have No Hands! They can't even play tag! Are you considering their feelings as they sit on the sidelines watching the other handed kids play tag?!


What about jacks, those little pointed metal thingys are prone to take out an eye. Has anyone done any research about whether or not "Stepping on the crack", Actually, "breaks your mother's back"....

in dade county they are forming teachers rally's as we speak because the avg salary is between $32k and $35k..This coupled with the fac that they cant slap the snot out of some of these kids for getting out of hand is where the problem lies.

and as for kids and sports at an early age they should be taught how to be part of a team and less about how good an individual is to the team....we can leave that to the pros i.e. the T.O's of the world...obviously playing the better players a little more to at least have a chance to win...but they should all be able to participate regardless of how good they are...

the other day one of the coaches said I want all you kids o practice at home and have this drill mastered by next week. He said there would be some sort of reward for the kids who did it best.

I could not believe the fireman (a friend of mine now) was so nice. I would have said - did you get to be a pilot not practicing? Do you want your kid to feel good without mastering a skill?

The guts are being squeezed out of this country by a bunch of losers making rules particularly the teachers unions.

how about if his son practiced more than the talented kids who didn't practice and just did a better job...how would that make that kid feel?? c'mon dude ur a dad...you should know better..at a higher level perhaps...but for young kids its supposed to be about fun and being part of something...not having to be pressured into being the best..I hope you dont scold ur 6 yr old when he doesnt hit it out of the park..
 
It's true Cohiba that SoFla teachers aren't paid excessively. Although one could argue that a 180 working day gig at 32k plus bennies for a 24 year old chick just out of college isn't starvation wages. In the unionized North it's quite different though. Several years on the job it's a 55-75k occupation. The kicker though is the retirement package. Typically 75% of one's last paycheck after 30 years. Outside of government not a hell of a lot of people are able to retire in their early to mid 50's on 50k (or more) per year.

On the whole I'm with The Cuban on this one. But as for Ivanowich and the something he calls secular-progressive whatever that may be, I would prefer rather that kids not be taught to surrender their own judgment to a conviction of bewilderment in an existence of guilt ridden low self-esteem as unworthy sinners. Better they be shown that their life and those of others are of the highest possible value. Then play tag.

32k/9=3555.00 if they worked a full year salary would be 3555.00x12=42,660.00

My rough guess is the actual worth of compensation is 60k in FL(medical, insurance, annuity, 503b..and god knows what else they get)

I would bet most teachers dont realize how good they have it..

would you guys beleive me when I say I know a gym teacher (thats all he does..20 years on the job) who makes 120k a year in East Islip NY....

while i dont know the numbers ( insurance and all the other crap u put up )..your rough guess is way off...they dont get 42k they get 32k, I dont care how u want to divide it...they have the option of getting it over 12 months or over 9 months...and dont forget a teachers job ( at least one that is doing his/her job correctly which is what we want for our kids ) doesnt stop at school. id say the package is more like 38k with insurance...and im sure they know how bad they have it...for most leave the job for a higher paying one and others are picketing to get more...im only referring to dade county...which is where i live...
