Quote from BSAM:
What many so-called conservative brethren refuse to accept is that the USA has become a liberal country.
I don't totally agree with that.
Basically, Romney lost out with blacks, hispanics and single women. I think some of that can be reversed without totally forfeiting the principles of the republican party.
Blacks are a lost cause. They are the least educated, most ignorant and most prejudiced demographic. Large majorities of them are content to be treated as livestock on the democrat farm. Outreach to them is a waste of time in general.
Appealing to hispanics is tricky. Amnesty and latino pride appeals are deeply unpopular with most republican voters and are in fact antithetical to the party's principles. Still, many hispanics are socially conservative Catholics who value hard work and often have small businesses. There is no reason they should vote 70% for liberal democrats. Tough nut to crack though because they reject the basic concept of American national sovereignty.
Single women probably tipped the election to obama. Republicans have only themselves to blame. From the crazed rantings of Rick Santorum in the primaries to moronic outbursts from idiots like that Akins guy in Missouri, who managed to blow a very winnable Senate seat, to Rush Limbaugh's intemperate mocking of that Fluke woman, single women tended to hear a message that was deeply insulting and offputting.
So some verbal discipline will go a long way with women. The party needs to accept victory on the abortion front and move on. Most people find abortion distasteful and morally repugnant, but they don't want pols in charge of it, just as we don't want pols telling seniors what procedures they can or can't have. Practice saying " I think abortion is a very personal decision involving unique circumstances. We want to provide every alternative to it, but in the end, it is not something the government should be involved in."
Somehow ignorant single women became convinced that republicans wanted to deny them contraceptives. Unfortunately, lies like that only sprout on fertile ground. Women who heard Romney and Santorum arguing over who was tougher on abortion could easily believe it. In fact, Santorum probably would like to ban contraceptives.
Appealing to single women does not require jettising core principles. Republicans need to relax a lot here and join the 21st century.
