What happened to the old traders

Michael Jordan was cut from his basketball team his sophomore year in high school. Was the coach a moron that MJ had to show up years and later and say "See look at me now!".

Of course not, MJ was not ready at that time nor as good as he was going to be and was cut for better players which motivated to dig deeper and come back even better. He only had to prove it to himself. @#$% everyone else.

Anyone needing to go back and feel like they need to prove to someone in the past they made it should grow up and realize they should be thanking them because it was a challenge to their potential that made them work harder to achieve it. I know in this pussified world we all need participation trophies but if you are presently not at the level you need to be based on your dream then a dose of reality is what most people need to motivate past that hurdle.

People who try the hardest to show off they succeeded or their weatlh are just cries for help and they have the most insecurities and always need the pat on the back from others to define their self worth. Psychology 101. If I have $10 million dollars, I have it whether you know it or not or whether I drive a Bentley or Buick. If I made $400,000 last year trading, posting it does not make the money and realer, my bank lets me deposit it whether ET believes in it or not. The best traders/wealthy people I ever met never needed to tell me they were rich, only those who feel they NEED other people to know because it compensates for insecurities show how little they are truly worth.

Fuck posting account statements or bank records or "proving" on anonymous message boards, the money is green and real whether others believe it or not and I spend it regardless.

So no, there is never any NEED to flaunt or go back to someone who doubted you. If you made it truly then they already know. If you are insecure and less worthy then you will pretend others are jealous.

Everyone is different. If you liked the bentley or jet etc you woukd buy it. If not you woukdnt. No big deal either way.

I would BUY it...not FLAUNT it and BRAG about it. 2 different things. The luxury items I have no one knows about it unless they saw it for themselves.

Donna (NoDoji) was an extremely honest, intelligent, positive, inspiring trader contributing to these forums. Her leaving is a testament to just how much negativity one person can withstand from years of trying to help others.

I couldn't agree more. This topic came up repeatedly while I was active on this site, requesting Baron to do something about all of the abusive posters that would attack those merely trying to help others on his site. Many options were proposed, including OP self-moderation of threads that they created. After initially agreeing to this option, Baron ultimately decided that either it was too much work to implement, or that his page views might drop if the attacks and spams were better controlled. In any case, a solution never materialized and this problem (IMO) has driven away a lot of quality traders and posters from his site. I hope NoDoji is doing well. She and I had a few PM messages over the years. Definitely a quality person.

I was fairly active here for many years, but now might check in a few times per year to read a few threads. This is my first post in several years, and likely my last for another few years.

I haven't traded since late 2015. The market slowly changed rendering my methods mostly breakeven. It wasn't worth the effort for me to focus on new strategies. After the 'glory years' of 2007 to 2009, I don't believe we will ever see comparable trader profitability ever in the future. I was fortunately to become financially secure from those great years and have no need to trade much more difficult markets now to scratch out a living going forward.

Regarding a discussion earlier in the this thread, I do believe HFT's played a large role in the adversely changing markets for my methods. I was typically a liquidity provider, and HFT's made it extremely difficult to get orders filled at the same rate as in the past, even for 100 share lots. I can't say with 100% confidence that this was the biggest contributor to the changing markets for my trading, but it's my belief that it was. Doesn't matter, either way.

Anyway, I'm happily retired from trading, golfing, traveling and investing in commercial real estate projects (hotels, apartments, residential community developments) for retirement income. Life is good.

Best of luck and success for those still on ET. I'll likely continue to check back in a few times per year.
