Where's Don Bright on this subject? You would think if anyone would have something to add to thid discussion it would be him since it would impact opening order strategies I would think.

Auto

I believe Don has commented that it does not affect his traders much. They use automated envelopes, and done just bid/offer at the range of the opening indication.

A bit silly, but pretty funny....especially around ET with all the proofreading not being done, LOL.

The vital statistic that everyone needed and needs to make rationale decisions on the opening is gone.
The "opening indication" is no longer showing on the NYSE pre 9:30 et.

Can you believe that the NYSE would deprive the public of the most basic, helpful info it has already
been disseminating for decades ?

Is there anyone else outragesd?

I would love to hear a serious comment from Don Bright,
not a stupid link to youtube.

Quote from Landis82:

The SEC mandate (and Reg. NMS) is what eliminated the ITS pre-opening indications. The NYSE has received some complaints regarding this feature having been eliminated. There are some ongoing discussions about it, but nothing says that it will ever be brought back.

Contact Karen Lorentz at the NYSE for more info.

If they were/are smart waggie, they would bring it back and fast.

The "indications" are relevant, inciteful, important, meaninful info that tremendously assist the public in accessing the actual opening prices. To hide this info is akin to being deceptive and non-transparent, and the NYSE doesn't need to be regarded this way. They are hurting themselves hiding opening indications.

GZ, you actually seem shocked and surprised by this move. NYSE has been gradually dismantling these small edges one by one. When I first started a couple of years ago, they published open imbalances along with the indications. Gone.

Opening indications? Gone.

Closing imbalances? Stay tuned.

Somebody apparently wants this information for themselves (specialists?) and got tired of you and other traders getting in their way. Nothing personal right?

I'm sure i'm not in a minority here, this is ridiculous.
opening indications are helpful info.
The NYSE is crazy for doing this and the outcry should be loud.

Hey genius,

Have you EVER traded a Nasdaq stock?

Wake the f**k up, the NYSE is chugging along, becoming just another Nasdaq.

And by the way, NYSE opening indications for 1-2 years prior to Hybrid were often BS anyway. You could watch the premarket trade against the indication and then SURPRISE! and the indication would change.

follow the ball

lack of opening indications = uncertainty

uncertainty over fills = confusion

confusion = lack of confidence

lack of confidence = market sell-offs.

Yeah, keep hiding the opening indications NYSE,
see how well it instills confidence in the market.

Yes, our mini-crash was due to the NYSE not offering opening indications. :D
