Timing in trading/ investing is everything. Index funds work very well when markets are efficient and assets are fairly priced IE right after credit crisis, however today with a long in the tooth bull market a skilled active manager will do better. Central Banks all around the globe printing money, low interest rates this bull market may last another day or ten years no one knows.
