Try a different bike, something where the seating position is more upright.

I'm jealous of this. Biking is so much fun, I used to do it daily in the 4 months of the year that allowed it. Living somewhere where you can't bike, that's a huge downside.

Everywhere in Philippines is basically a "poorly designed metropolitan environment."
I visited that country in the Summer of 2001. Traffic congestion and pollution, and trash bags on side of the streets/highways.

No it's not. Most of the Philippines isn't metropolitan or even cities. There are very clean, organized areas in the country but tourists never see them.
