What do you call yourself?

Best "title" is "INVESTOR"....

of course, if you need to exactly explain what you invest in and how......

Money Manager works too. Can always say you manage for one very special client (yourself, but why get specific?).

As a (successful) daytrader he should already have learned the major lesson in life: EVERYTHING CHANGES!

I don't think you need to realize that in order to be successful. Computers don't actually realize anything, but they can be successful daytraders.

Without getting into a lot of details on this site... when I used to trade on the floor and drive a porsche (no big deal to me, but bigger to others) my worry in telling people (and women in particular!) what I did... was the fear of conjuring up diferent images for different folks, i.e on the one hand they'd think you do drugs/chase women, drink, party... while on the other side they liked money (or the thoght of it) and would begin dreaming of that large home in Lake Forest & a second one in Aspen! And we're talking here, over one martini. <smile>

Sadly very true. I watched a programme about the dating rituals in NY the other night. It was more like a cattle market....

But as many of us know or learned the hard way, any special woman, the kind you live with/ marry/hold onto... has insight into the true nature of things, and this biz. And I ant her with me not for what I do but for who I am. Is that an oxymoron to expect that from a woman? <lol>

I think that is all any of us really want - someone who loves us for ourselves. The problem is, the more successful we become, the more the question of the other person's motive comes to light. How many books and films have there been about rich kid pretends to be poor for a while so that they can find someone who wants them for who they are and not for what they've got..?

It can be even harder the other way around. I've been both well off and hard up at various times. Guys are generally either scared off by - well off, successful, intelligent women, - or interested in their wealth. My best friends have always been made when I was having a tough time. Problem is - you get successful again and they then run away for a bit (the good ones always come back though...)

Yes - it can be very lonely indeed.

This does not vitiate my thesis.

So IMHO everyone who understands and accepts that will be one step closer to success and harmony in trading, love, and life!

I agree.
Great post, iceman.

It also depends on how you look at things yourself. There are lots of morons who consider themselves "successful, well off, etc." when really they are vegetating on a 5 figure salary. They just think they are above the masses because they make 3 times as much as a construction worker and they can buy a Mercedes for 60 easy payments instead of a Dodge.

I'm not saying the difference between 20k and 100k a year is negligible, but almost. And I would be just as ashamed of a mid six figure income as of a low 5 figure one. It's all the same: Enough to survive, not enough to enjoy.

True, but only because you said "should". Have you thought of going into politics?

I wrote "As a (successful) daytrader he should already have learned the major lesson in life: EVERYTHING CHANGES!"

The magic word in this sentence is "he", which refers to DT-waw, certainly not a computer...

And yes, I thought about going into politics. I had such a sudden inspiration some weeks ago. Decided against it. Unhealthy lifestyle, >40 hours week, and they even do not rule this world (aside from the Bush clan).
:p

You really ARE good at it. Not bad at all for a warrior!
