What Do Trader's Need?

A friend of mine is a professional programmer who caters mostly to traders and trading firms.

He recently asked me "What do traders need?" In other words, what idea or innovation would make a trader's job easier? It doesn't necessarily have to be software. It can be anything.

I couldn't really come up with a good answer, but I am curious about other's ideas.
