What do Robots on ET do ?

Ok thank you for the dear reply.
Search engines only ? No one else could query data from that website ?
I mean, if I wanted to retrieve some data from there, could I do it ?
Do I need your approbation ? Don't wanna do it. Just asking.
 
Any robot or human with a web client can query the PUBLIC portion of this site, not the private side like private messages and threads, user preferences, etc.

The ones I am aware are are trolling for social media buy/sell signals--there are several firms that specialize in this-- its fascinating------ so be careful what you post!

I always wondered about this:

Can't you post keywords in white letters (so it would be unseen for the average user, like a blank post) to fool the bots and drive traffic to the site? I think Big Mike does something similar when he is indexing their posts with a bunch of keywords what the bots are after...
 
I'm sure there are ways to manipulate search indexing but I've always preferred to stay out of all that. I think that keeping everything totally organic and legit is the best policy long term.
