What Do Hedge Funds Think of Technical Analysis?

....
2- Yes you’re a retail “daytrader” punting e-minis. Congrats.

But trading at a hedge fund, or other large investment fund, is quite sophisticated and very different from what you do.
I know. Beat ya to it:-

"Yup amazin' how so many ignorantly lump drawing lines and stares at charts, that us sophisticated folks don't use,......."

So so sophisticated that a high majority of HF's, just like retailers, lewz. But at least they do it in a sophisticated way. :D

Im in your camp, but i have no doubt there are a small group of talented individuals who trade "technically" with sound money management and knock the cover off the ball...

Would love to see some evidence of this. You got some data?

severe dunning-kruger here. For the quants who do utilize technical data (e.g. price, time and sales data, etc.), they can spend weeks/months conducting research (reading a lot of research, testing and sampling data, testing and measuring analysis) before they put a trade on.

here are snippets of real hedge fund job postings lol:

yes but we're talking about a tiny subset that as a % of population would be no different than the % of monkeys with darts who also beat SPX... :P

Only one of the guys is legit, and yeah sure at the end of the day if you can make money good for you. Vast majority of hedge funds do not use technical analysis in a meaningful way like retail (e.g. trade ideas, price targets, etc.). While certain technicals are valuable (skew, positioning, momentum), in real life the amount of liquidity you’re seeing on screens is chump change and no hedge fund or large investor (ex-hft, which is also non-technical) is trying to squeeze for pennies lol.
They don't use it for establishing longer term positions?
