What defines a market Crash?

I never been thru a market crash but to me Oct dam sure looked like the market crashed.. But I guess not... So for the people that been thru a market crash before, What defines a market Crash?

Totally subjective but for me it's a major index losing 20%... intraday. A very rare event.

Thanks man for the info... Its funny how wikipedia is calling Oct 2008 a crash but the media hasn't said anything about a crash....
