What are the odds Sryia turns into a regional conflict?

I wonder if we could convince China Russia and the middle east to hold off on any further action until the US gets a real president in the White House.

Hard to say.

The port of Tartus on the Syrian coast is a Russian naval base and it's only military base outside of Russia after the collapse of the soviet union. So they obviously have some interests at stake.

The British also have a base on Cyprus at Akrotiri about 300 miles off the coast of Syria, so that asset and Israel might be subject to retaliation even if Syria's missiles do not have the requisite range. But we do not know that, China has been selling missiles to Syria for the last two decades.

If they somehow have this, then all of US military assets throughout the Mediterranean will easily be in range.

The DongHai 10 (DH-10; Chinese: 东海-10; literally "East Sea-10") is a cruise missile developed in the People's Republic of China by the Third Academy by CASIC.

According to Janes, the DH-10 is a second-generation land-attack cruise missile (LACM), integrated inertial navigation system, GPS, terrain contour mapping system, and digital scene-matching terminal-homing system. The missile is estimated to have a circular error probable (CEP) of 10 meters. In 2008, a Pentagon report estimated the range of the DH-10 as over 4,000 km.

A report by the Office of the Director for National Intelligence outlining that evidence against Syria includes a few key caveats - including acknowledging that the U.S. intelligence community no longer has the certainty it did six months ago of where the regime's chemical weapons are stored, nor does it have proof Assad ordered chemical weapons use, according to two intelligence officials and two more U.S. officials.

We will NEVER again see a "real" president in the WH... until after the bloody "revolution"..

Every pres after Odumbo will the the one who promises "more and more freebies to the parasites at the expense of the makers".

Meanwhile rebels say 2-day strike is not enough, they want a 10 day military strike!

Syria rebels warn that two-day missile assault is not enough

Gen Abdelaziz Shallan, the most senior defector from President Bashar al-Assad's ranks and now a senior figure in the Free Syrian Army (FSA) command, said that a sustained bombing campaign must last at least 10 days, not the two or three thought to be favoured by attack planners.

Gen Shallan told The Telegraph that he had made his concerns clear to an American general who had consulted with the opposition fighters in recent days.

That's probably very true. I'd like to see Cruz make a real shot for the White House. I think Rand gives up too much, ideologically.

This is an interesting comment from Britain...They are voting right now whether to authorize action.

1903 GMT: Back in the UK's House of Lords, Labour economist Lord Desai has a bleak prognosis. "We are going to intervene sooner or later," he tells peers, "because this war is going last for much longer than we think. It is not just a Syrian civil war. This is part of a 40-year crisis of the Muslim Middle East... It's not just a Shia-Sunni war, this is sort of a rehearsal, like the Spanish civil war, of the bigger conflagration which is about to come".

It's already a regional conflict. The Pakistani Taliban and other al Qaeda types are already in and fighting along side the rebels. Iran backs them all. Pakistan backs them all. The Russians provide support. Who knows what the Chinese are up to. All this and Assad ain't backing up. He gets hit, he will hit back and won't much care who gets in the way. We're going to war, another war same as the other war we're fighting, only me thinks the body count region wide is going to get quite high before it's over.
