What are the most important things for Technical Analysis?

As a long time classic TA fanatic it is always the risk & trade mgm that is most important. Using a rules based system & knowing/following your trading plan inside & out keeps your capital intact so you can stay in the game.

Everything’s tested in historical markets. The past is a pretty good predictor of the future. It’s not perfect. But human beings drive markets, and human beings don’t change their stripes overnight. So to the extent that one can understand the past, there’s a good likelihood you’ll have some insight into the future. – James Simons, Forbes #82 richest on planet - 11.0 Billion

The trend. Ice in the veins. Two big hairy balls :D

I use moving averages, standard deviations and derivatives. Useful for quantifying price action.

Have a specific DEFINITIONS of a trend. Then you can decide to use TA to help time trading with the trend or against it as in mean reversion. Make sure to pick ONLY 1 trend indicator , ONLY 1 momentum indicator, ONLY 1 volume indicator!! Newbies tend to pick too many of the same type of indicator that obviously coincide. This leads to poor decisions because only a part of the puzzle is known.

GREAT ADVICE
