“ I am not greedy. As long as I have my millions of dollars, my solid gold house, and my rocket car, I’m happy. “

They should do a study on happiness and FU money![]()
Hey, I just posted the piece. Don't look at me. But there is merit in the point. I would imagine that for most people it is easier to spend less than it is to make more. Either one provides more of a buffer, which increases your control. But, yeah, making more is better for those who can do it.

I think a glaring gap in that study is that they did not look at assets, debt, age, family composition, education, etc.
Just an annual income doesn't tell you much about whether someone is/feels wealthy or not.
100,000 a year, if you have a mortgage, student loans, credit card debt, two kids and you hate your job is not going to feel the same than if you're debt free, have half a million in the bank, enjoy your job or are your own boss, etc.

I can tell you from experience it's 1000x better living in a battery powered shack with acres of hills of grass, a shop full of stuff to work on and enough time and money to never need to go back to the office.
I had the McMansion for a while, nice car, clean neighborhood etc. and it was like swimming upriver in paradise. Beautiful, tiring, and basically getting nowhere!
Check out the face of Gandhi as a young lawyer compared to later in life when he was no longer entangled in any way.
So you're saying you lacked freedom and control?I had the McMansion for a while, nice car, clean neighborhood etc. and it was like swimming upriver in paradise. Beautiful, tiring, and basically getting nowhere!
Are you sure you're getting enough roughage?I think I heard this conversation on NPR the other day. Typical leftist bullshit pseudo science. "and the paper concludes we need more communism".
Our society is infested by idiots pretending to do science. We have an entire class of people with advanced degrees in bullshit running statistical models to pretend to prove what they already believe to be true. They arent frauds though because no one believes their bullshit as much as they do. They are delusional and pseudo intelligent. If you listen to NPR they dont even talk like normal people. They all talk with some fake accent or overly nasal.
What could be more obvious that happiness is highly individualistic and an unmeasurable subjective temporary state. I am happy now but I can never be as happy as I was at 19 when the world was a mystery and anything was possible. I wouldnt have been happier at 19 +$100k. It would just be a different baseline and starting point because all this is sensitive to initial conditions.
