We'll Tell You How Dangerous Ebola Is After The Election

Republican Who Wants West Africa Flight Ban Unaware There Are No Direct Flights To U.S.

A member of Congress who wants to ban travel from countries afflicted by the Ebola outbreak appeared to be unaware of a key fact -- that there are no direct flights between the U.S. and Liberia, Guinea or Sierra Leone.

In a Friday morning appearance on MSNBC, Rep. Dennis Ross (R-Fla.) argued that instituting a flight ban, regardless of what experts say, makes sense and said he plans to introduce a bill doing so once Congress reconvenes in November.

"I believe we can nip this in the bud, if you will, at least by banning those flights temporarily until such time as the [Centers for Disease Control and Prevention] believes the epidemic is under control and also make sure we don't issue visas to travelers from over there. We have a good border patrol, believe it or not, and they can catch these people with fake passports and fake visas as they come across the border. It just seems to me we ought to have the debate on this and flush this out and that's why I filed the bill to allow for the banning of these flights," he said.

Since there are no direct flights between the hardest-hit nations and the United States, the Florida Republican was pressed to specifically identify which flights he wanted to impose restrictions on.

"I believe there are some flights," Ross responded.

"There are no flights. There are no direct flights that come to the United States from West Africa. That is incorrect," rebutted New York Times reporter Jeremy W. Peters.

"Then we don't have any problem. Everybody's contained, correct?" Ross responded sarcastically. "They are not. They are traveling. They are traveling."

"It will not solve the problem," he added of his bill. "It is a step in the right direction. We know what the source is. We know that they are traveling here."

Makes you wonder if anybody can get elected . . .

So let me get this straight, if someone takes a flight from Liberia to South Africa - has a three hour layover in South Africa - and then gets on a plane to the U.S. - the Huff Post believes there is no way they can track that this individual has starting his travels in an impacted country.

Well that seems strange, the U.S. government seems to be able to track myself and everyone else back to their origination very readily, for example when I re-entered the U.S. and started my travel in Toronto before stopping in Vancouver, changing planes then continuing on the way for a cruise out of Seattle - the U.S. customs & immigration people knew my entire itinerary.

A "flight ban' - bans people whose travel originated in the three impacted countries - not only planes flying directly from the three impacted countries.

This is getting comical, as we watch administration apologists try to justify a criminally incompetent policy.

We could start by not giving any more visas to people in those countries. Then we bar people who have been there. You think that's impossible? Well how do arab countries bar people who have israel stamps in their passport? I think we ought to at least be as sophisticated as say Yemen.

Gardner first asked CDC Director Dr Tom Frieden, "I think you mentioned there were approximately 100 to 150 people a day coming into the United States from the infected areas?".........

GARDNER: There's 2,000 to 3,000 people their -- entering this country a year without checking their temperature, without having a contact sheet............

"Screening" consists of two ineffectual steps:
taking someone's temperature by an inaccurate remote sensor (are they going to take their temperature every day for 40days?)
and asking them where they've been the past 21 days (a dying man would never lie about that)

And where is the, not 21 day quarantine, but the 40 day quarantine as soon as they arrive here?
