YouTube on Wednesday removed videos from Brazil President Jair Bolsonaro's channel, citing its policy against spreading coronavirus misinformation, Reuters reported.
YouTube said that it made the move without regard to the president’s politics, and said that “after careful review” it decided to take down some of the videos, Reuters reported.
"Our rules do not allow content that states that hydroxychloroquine and/or ivermectin are effective in treating or preventing COVID-19, that states there is a cure for the disease, or says that masks do not work to prevent the spread of the virus," it said in a statement, according to Reuters.
Bolsonaro’s office did not immediately respond to a request by Reuters for comment.
Bolsonaro, who is being investigated for his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, has been fined several times for failing to wear a mask and has made bizarre comments regarding vaccines and the pandemic.
According to AFP, the Brazilian president suggested in December that the Pfizer vaccine could turn someone into a crocodile and has referred to the coronavirus as “a little flu.”
"In the Pfizer contract it's very clear: 'we're not responsible for any side effects.' If you turn into a crocodile, it's your problem," Bolsonaro said in December, according to AFP.
He also claimed that Brazilians could “jump into sewage” and not catch anything, according to The Guardian.
Reuters notes that YouTube's decision follows ones taken by Facebook and Twitter last year in which they also removed content after Bolsonaro made statements that were at odds with medical advice being given by health experts.

Video shows Brazilian bank robbers strap hostages to getaway cars as ‘human shields’
Brazilian bank robbers strapped hostages to their getaway cars as “human shields” in an elaborate plot that saw the criminals also plant bombs throughout the city to aid their escape.
Shocking video shows the victims tied to the roofs and hoods of 10 cars after the heavily armed robbers targeted three different banks in the city of Araçatuba early Monday.
Another video showed a man, believed to be a hostage, standing through the sun roof of one car with his arms in the air.
Citing police, local news outlet G1 reported that three people were killed, but the causes of those deaths were not released.
At least four people were injured, including three who had been shot multiple times.

In addition to the human shields, police say the criminals planted explosives at 14 different points in the city to deter authorities as they made their escape.
Military police said the explosives were fitted with sensors that detonated if someone approached.
Victims were tied to the roofs and hoods of 10 cars after the heavily armed robbers targeted three different banks.

A 25-year-old man on a bike had his legs blown off after triggering one of the explosives as he rode by, police told the local outlet.
The robbers also set four vehicles, including a bus, on fire as they fled to act as a distraction.
More than 20 people took part in the heists. The criminals used drones to monitor police as the robberies unfolded.

Araçatuba Mayor Dilador Borges told CNN that police were still hunting the robbers after they fled into the countryside.
He said police were forced to stand back as the deadly events unfolded because they feared more people would be killed.
