‘We will prosecute’ employers who help immigration sweeps, California AG says

I don't exactly see what the state is trying to accomplish with some of this.

There is a lot of emphasis on having to notify employees 72 hours in advance of any inspection when the employer is notified of a scheduled inspection by the feds.

Okay, but what is the purpose? So that illegals can flee or what? And so that the employer can then destroy their records or something. What is goal there?

Also, it is not clear to me that the feds have any legal requirement to give notice of an inspection. I think they can just show up like food inspectors do. If they are doing routine inspections just to check records- versus reports of illegals there- they can schedule routine audits to help coordinate with employer but I am not sure if that is required. What I am getting at, is if they try to implement this 72 hour employer notice to employees, the feds may just to decide to turn routine audits into unscheduled visits/raids so that the employer doesn't even know the are coming- and therefore cannot meet the state requirement to notify the employees 72 hours in advance. Which of course just makes life more miserable for both the employers and the employees.

Probably I just don't understand the bill yet- or possibly they don't.

Hey, it's California. Take a puff on your weed and it all makes sense.
